I’ll be posting monthly check-ins on my 2023 Goals. This is check-in #5!
Take care of my health
I lost 2.1% of my body weight in May and 18.4% so far for the year.
Ha, this month. I did not do great with my eating! But that’s okay. Progress is NOT linear, and I’m not a robot. My goal is to have a realistic and sustainable diet that’s mostly nourishing but also includes some fun junk. (What I don’t want my diet to include is binge moments, which I am (will always be?) working on.)
I did have some exciting non-scale victories this month – I needed a smaller belt, I fit into some of my smaller clothing, and size 12 pants my snis got me fit. I wasn’t seeing the weight loss before (because I see myself every day!) but now I’m starting to.
I still have a lot of physical energy, and not as much mental. I started therapy in May to help my mental health and it’s been great so far!
I worked out every day this month, either walking, running, or cycling, sometimes adding strength training to one of those. Steven and I are training for a 5K that’s in two days! After that, I will train for a half marathon in August (meaning I will see if my body likes the longer mileage). Oh! And I have a 50 mile bike ride with my dad and snis on July 26.
Spend less
(mostly tracking my two vices – sending packages and getting Starbucks)
I mailed four packages – two birthday gifts ($7.20 & $7.18) and two just because ($19.33 & $3.66) – totaling $37.37. I suppose I should keep this tally running for the year to see if I am doing any better than last year:
January: $248.76
February: $81
March: $72.54
April: $44.40
May: $37.37
Total: $484.07
Last Year: $1,740
I went to Starbucks three times (and think I had gift cards for most of the visits?). I went 5/12 with Steven, 5/18 with my coworker Rebecca, and picked it up 5/27 for me and my snis. It seems silly to track this, but knowing I’m going to write it here keeps me from going more. Ha. And I have been making chais at home.
Continue to purge things I don’t use from the house
I threw out a bunch of pairs of old shoes that had been sitting in our basement since we moved in over 7 years ago. And I threw out three pairs of old running shoes.
Visit a new state with Steven
I am hoping we’ll do a trip to a new-to-us state in the fall.
Hide a rock a day for the year
Still going strong!
Wow a 2.1% loss in a “bad” month! You are killing it. The number that matters of course is the grand total, and 18.4% puts you in the top 0.000001% of weight loss success. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your support! I’ve been thinking this morning about how I’ve been working at this for 5 months and that it feels really sustainable and like I can keep it going!
You’re doing great! Sometimes progress seems slow but I am glad you’re seeing the changes happening now. I think you have a viable, healthy approach to the whole thing.
Good job on tracking your spending. It’s hard sometimes to cut out the vices, but you can only see success if you are honest with yourself.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that you see it that way too! I really want to stick with it and being realistic is the only way to do so.
Agreed! This accountability is really helping me.
Woot! Sounds like you’re really making progress with your goals. Isn’t it exciting to see how far you’ve come since the beginning of the year?!
Thank you! Yes it is!
You are doing AWESOME, Kim! Way to go. I’m especially impressed with the money goal – look at you!!
Thanks so much Stephany! 🥹
WOW, Kim! Wow! You look fantastic. You’ve done an amazing job focusing on your health. Go, you
And, I really need to follow your lead and lower my spending on… e-books. Sigh. I’m terrible. Thanks for the excellent example. 🙂
