I’ll be posting monthly check-ins on my 2023 Goals. This is check-in #6!
Take care of my health
(This one has a weight loss # right below the photo so skip if that’s not for you!)
I’m down 2.7% of my body weight for the month, and 20.6% for the year. I was excited to see that halfway through the year, I’m down exactly 50 pounds!
I actually thought I’d have a bit more progress this month. In my mind, this was going to be the month where I really focused on my diet before things got crazy in July and August with travel and… that did not happen! What did happen is I lived my life, ate to fuel my body with all the exercising I was doing, and had a couple of out of control eating moments. Progress is not linear, and I’m really proud and happy with how things are going.
I learned a few things this month:
- After a weekend of travel and eating differently, if takes me about a week to get back to my regular eating schedule (so July, with three Iowa trips, should be very interesting)
- If I want to lose weight I can’t work out so damn much – I need to eat more to fuel all those workouts
I worked out every day this month, either walking, running, or cycling, and sometimes adding strength training. Mid month, I started doing a little bit of strength training most days of the week. Steven and I are running a 5K in 3 days, and I’ve done 4 long distance training runs for an August half marathon, and have been doing longer rides to prepare for a 50 mile bike ride with my dad and snis on July 26.
I had some exciting non-scale victories (NSV) on the workout front: fitting into my size L workout shorts and tops, and running and cycling longer distances and feeling good, and running 3 miles in under 30 minutes. And, a non-workout NSV – I am fitting into the size 12 shorts I bought for the summer! Yay!
I’ve been continuing with therapy and have had 5 sessions so far with a 6th coming up this week. We’ve gone to an every two weeks frequency and it’s nice to know I’ll have that check-in and can go over my list of things I feel stressed or challenged by (see: work).
Spend less
(mostly tracking my two vices – sending packages and getting Starbucks)
I mailed four packages (June total $99.47):
- one to Bianca in Netherlands (since she sent me so many stones!) $42.13
- one to Lauren in Australia for her July birthday $42.99
- one to Erin (I realized I was holding some of her books hostage, and included some rocks, of course!) $7.15
- one to the IRS $7.20
January: $248.76
February: $81
March: $72.54
April: $44.40
May: $37.37
June: $99.47
Total: $583.54
Last Year: $1,740
I went to Starbucks on June 9th, and got my free drink, so I had to get a venti!!!
Continue to purge things I don’t use from the house
Woo hoo, I got rid of a lot this month! I donated a bunch of books and more clothes (work tops, dresses, lightly used bike jerseys) on June 23, and threw out old running shorts (too big and stinky), shoes (too worn out), and old bras and underwear (ew). My closets can breathe now! Yay!
Visit a new state with Steven
I’m hoping we’ll do a trip to a new-to-us state in the fall.
Hide a rock a day for the year
Still on track!
Cheering squad here reporting for duty! I don’t think you understand how big a deal a 2.7% loss in one month is – you definitely fall under the “results not typical” asterisk that appears on every weight loss ad. And woot woot on the 50!!!
Sure the bike ride and half marathon might slow your progress a little bit – but so what? Skipping those experiences would be like someone who refuses to wear shorts in the summer because they don’t like the way their body looks – just because you’re on a mission doesn’t mean that you can’t stop for some fun along the way. I can’t cheer loudly enough because what you have done is incredible.
Oh my gosh. You’re too kind. Thank you so much! I really appreciate you cheering me on! It means the world to me!
And I 100% agree! I am going to keep riding and running! What I stopped doing was extra walking on days I was doing other workouts. I thought it would help me but it didn’t.
Again, thanks so much! I wish this comment had come through to my email so I could actually send you this response. LOL. I should look into that.
Yay! Nicely done! I know that things have been tough with your health and figuring out how to control things, so I think you’ve been doing a great job. I also really enjoy seeing you hide your rocks on Instagram. It’s lovely when it comes through my feed!
Thank you so much! And I am so glad you enjoy seeing them! Yay!
You’re doing fantastic on your goals – on all fronts! That must feel great.
Thank you so much! It does! I feel like I am finally adulting?! LOL
You’re kicking ass this year, Kim! Way to go! I’m also really proud of all the purging you’ve been doing of the stuff in your home. Doesn’t it always feel so good to drop off some donations somewhere else? I love that feeling!
Thank you so much! It feels absolutely amazing! And we still have a ton more to get rid of so the feeling continues!
Dang it, Stephany beat me to the comment I was going to make – you are truly kicking ass (and taking names, too… ;>). Your physical fitness must be through the roof! Of course you need more fuel – but you’re also building muscle, and o2 capacity, and all good things. Do what makes you happy – and what feels good. 🙂
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement!!!
