Notes:
- Whoa, I felt sluggish during my Tuesday speedwork this week, and on my Wednesday am run, from lifting so heavy Tuesday night. Eek!
- But I felt amazing on my Friday run – so much that my last three miles were my fastest, by a lot! Yay!
- The weather was so weird Friday-Sunday. I’d feel too cold running in to the wind, and way too overdressed running with it. Zzz, weather talk.
- I realized another benefit of not leaving the house much due to COVID-19 – my piriformis feels great after not sitting on a train seat in a few months, and after not sitting on my car seat much.
- This week I listened to a podcast interview with Sara Hall, and she talked about how her quads gave out in the NYC 2019 Marathon and at the 2020 Marathon Trials, comparing it to a car, saying “it’s like having two flat tires – the engine is fine, but you can’t get very far on two flats.” Later she used a chassis analogy. Hall likes her car analogies! I think I have some flat tire days – not to the extent she does, but days where cardiovascularly I feel fine but my legs are like, “no, hun, just… no”
- Our neighbor recommended a sports wash called “Active Wear Laundry Detergent” to me and I tried it on some really old stinky clothes… and they still stink. I need to give it a fair shot on shorts that haven’t been worn 100 times. Ha.
I like that flat tire analogy. It is pretty much always my legs that slow me down- not my lungs. I use Oxy Clean on my stinky stuff. I try to soak all my gross stuff once a month or so in the tub with that and then run through the wash with just water. It doesn’t totally get the permastink out of the oldest stuff, but it helps enough that I am not embarrassed to wear it around other people.
I like it too! It’s often my legs sore as well!
Oxy Clean is the bomb! I was soaking some really stinky stuff before washing it… I should start that up again, thanks for the reminder! I feel like I need to have a set of clothes I can wear around people (so, like, one outfit, since even before all this, I usually ran alone) and then my stuff, because it just gets so darn stinky and gross.
I pretty much always run alone and early enough that I don’t even pass other runners. I have to remember to sniff test my clothes before a race!
