Well, I may have just jinxed our RAGBRAI ride next week (on Saturday!).
No, I would never wear the jersey before the event! GASP!
I have a firm belief in not writing about things too much before they happen because I fear it will jinx the event. For example, I never fill out my training posts that I write here in advance, even with things I know I will do on that day, because that could mean they won’t happen. Talking about Grandma’s Marathon here so much before it happened and posting on Instagram right before the race (what was I thinking?!) started is obviously what caused me to crash and burn there and lose my running mojo since then (ha). And yes, me being so excited about seeing the Rolling Stones caused our concert to almost be rescheduled. Almost. That was a close one. AHHHH.
So today, I was re-reading old RAGBRAI posts to get ready for next week’s ride and thought to start drafting out the parts of the post about this year’s ride that I could.
So I did. And it felt SO wrong.

SAME! I won’t wear the race shirt until after the race and I don’t start a recap beforehand either. But I’m sure you didn’t jinx it – it’s RAGBRAI, it’s fun, it’ll be great!!
I am with you so much on the shirts! Did you know is some cultures everyone wears the shirt to the race? I had a friend living overseas doing races and she told me about that. I thought it was so interesting!

It’s generally not, here! Some races don’t even give you your shirt until you finish (that was something that was encouraging me to finish Grandma’s Marathon last year).

I can see why you enjoy the RAGBRAI so much. I did my first bike event of my life yesterday with a friend and it was so much fun! Even with the feels like temp being 110 or something nasty like that.

When I write my training recaps, I don’t even fill in my rest days until they’ve happened, haha. I’m not going to tempt fate like that! What if something changes?!
