I’ll be posting monthly check-ins on my 2023 Goals. This is check-in #8!
Take care of my health
August was another month with no scale progress (.6% gain, 19.5% lost for the year), which I expected and am fine with. My weight has been stable for two months, which is great, considering all the traveling I’ve been doing.
However! I will focus on my eating in September. There’s been a lot of mindless snacking. I feel good at this weight, but my body would be happier running at a lower weight. I heard a great tip to “change your environment” to help break snacking patterns, and plan to try that.
I had a good workout month. I did some long runs and bike rides, and started going to strength classes (2x a week when possible – upper body at one class and lower body at the other). I went paddle boarding with friends, and made time to exercise when I was in Denver for almost a week. I also took a rest day in Denver to get more sleep, and am proud of myself for not being completely obsessive.
Other notes:
- I started paying attention to the Body Battery stats on Garmin after Val pointed them out to me, and find it helpful to see the number and advice it gives on how active to be, based on how charged it perceives me to be.
- I canceled therapy for next week because of a schedule conflict, and don’t feel like I need it. I will schedule an appointment when I do!
- One thing I changed this year to help with my eating was to only shop off of my grocery list and not buy things to “try.” It’s not fun but it sure works.
Spend less
(mostly tracking my two vices – sending packages and getting Starbucks)
I sent out five ($9.94, $9.59, $15.48, $3.64, $5.04) birthday packages and one ($5.17) “just because” package, totaling $48.86.
January: $248.76
February: $81
March: $72.54
April: $44.40
May: $37.37
June: $99.47
July: $15.09
August: $48.86
Total: $647.49
I had Starbucks three times – in the office on the afternoon of the 9th, with Carrie in Denver on the 23rd, and on the way to the office on the 30th. That was the first time I picked it up on the way into the office, and I used to do that every day! I’m glad I broke that habit.
Continue to purge things I donβt use from the house
I didn’t work on this this month.
Visit a new state with Steven
We booked our trip to Maine! I’m so excited!
Hide a rock a day for the year
Still on track!
Which Garmin do you have? Did I ask you that already? π
You look great and I am thrilled you’re continuing to see progress (even if not on the scale).
I have the Garmin 255.
Aww thank you!
What San said – you look great! The scale can’t measure everything. Also, summer is a fun time. Fall, winter, and spring are better suited toward doing the boring stuff that gets us to our goals.
I’ve always been confused about what I’m supposed to “do” with the body battery info. Big surprise, mine is always low. I’d be curious to see if the numbers change once my work situation changes.
I was surprised by how little time in therapy that I needed. It was such a big decision to go & find the therapist, and then once I got there things moved very quickly. I’d definitely go back if I needed to.
And yep sticking to the grocery list is a surefire way to cut your grocery bill! I’m saying this mostly as a reminder to myself.
Thank you so much! It sure doesn’t and I have had the same attitude about this summer. However, I do have fun trips planned in October and November and need to make sure I don’t somehow extend this casual attitude a few more months (I really don’t think I will).
My interpretation is that you are supposed to acknowledge it as a sign of how you may feel during activity. Like, if it’s low you might feel low energy and vice versa. I guess not so much as to look at it and get in your head about a workout prior, but maybe after if things felt off or really great. I am curious to see if that changes for you too!
Same!!!! We just needed someone to listen for a short bit! I am so so glad it helped you so much.
Oh yes! That too! Did you stick to your list this week? π
Isn’t it so amazing to get to “as needed” for therapy? I’m glad you found so much usefulness from therapy and now don’t need to go as frequently! I still go monthly because I find that I tend to like to have that space once a month to discuss anything that’s on my mind, even if it’s nothing related to mental health. It’s nice to have that sounding board!
It is! And it’s amazing to know I can reach back out. I bet I will develop a drop in schedule like that. Because things do build up that I want to discuss!
Oh, you and Steven will love Maine, I bet! I am so glad you got that trip booked. And my goodness, you look fantastic. Scales, shmales. π
Aww, thanks so much!
