When I was cycling this morning I was thinking about how nice it is to have “idea time” back in my workouts and to come up with so many things I want to write about here. I love seeing where my mind goes during these longer workouts!
(Then I thought a lot about how I wished I could get into that state when I’m not working out or driving but my brain is too chaotic and scattered lately)
Later it hit me – yesterday I mentioned I thought about quitting blogging last year, during a time when I was also hardly working out… well, duh. Less workouts = less idea time = less ideas in my brain to blog about.
I’m a bit slow to make connections. Obviously. (For real though, I’m the person who gets the joke way after the fact)
So it’s safe to say if I keep doing longer workouts I’ll keep having ideas to blog about. The funny thing though, is I’m trying NOT to blog too much about those workouts and the exercise I’m doing.
For over 13 years I did a Sunday training recap post , where I got into the details on what I did each day of the week. The format of the post evolved over time, but I kept at it, because it made me feel good to post it each week.
Until it didn’t. I was hardly working out and taking care of my body at all and didn’t want to post about that, and was annoyed by how muck work creating the post was. I wanted the record for me, but the way I was sharing it didn’t work anymore.
So I made the Sunday training recap private in November, and that made it so much better! (No one misses those posts – they’re boring). Now it’s 100% just for me, and I’m getting more out of it because I’m brutally honest with myself on it.
In case you were wondering (no one was, I know), that’s where they went.
Hey if long workouts are giving you blogging ideas then I am a big fan!
But srsly, when I was really really reeeeeally into running my recap posts would almost write themselves. Then I got burned out and my posts became more like “I ran 3 miles bye”. Once I switched to more strength/less cardio every once in a while I still have stuff to say, but mostly it’s “Yeah workouts. Did them”.
Aww thank you!
Ha! I so get that. Sometimes a workout is just a workout! That is such a good point, because back when I was still publishing them, if I didn’t write about the workouts as I went, I’d get to the week and not have anything to add and it was literally just stats.
I always liked your updates but do understand the time and work required on your end to keep them up. I’m glad you’ve found the right balance FOR NOW. It’ll probably change again, don’t you think? 🙂
Aww thanks for saying that! And yeah, it could definitely change! Just doing what works for me now! 🙂
