I usually head into August all moody – moody that my birthday is over and all the fun stuff associated with it, and moody that it’s still so damn hot out (and will be for another 1-2 months).
But I don’t feel that way at all this year! I think it’s because:
- I have fun things going on in August. I’m going to Denver (for work) and seeing Val and Carrie, and flying to Iowa for a day for Christina’s (my snister’s) birthday (if the weather is good). And I have other small dates! (I also have LOTS of travel plans for September and October to pin down!)
- I’m healthy. Last year I started August with COVID-19 and it sucked. August was also when I ended up at the ER because my leg looked so odd but they didn’t find anything. Not a great health month (for me or Steven).
- I’m healthy part ii. I feel so grateful I’m able to run longer distances again, and I want to get the most out of those early sunrises before they go away, weather be damned (although, I felt like the wind was starting to sound fall-like yesterday, if that makes sense to anyone besides me).
- Perspective. I know my happiness is in my own hands and I dictate how I spend (most) of my days! Does anyone else feel like the years get better and better as you learn what truly makes you feel fulfilled and spend more of your time doing that?
- Perspective part ii. No August can be as bad as August 2016, where we spend every weekend and weeknight working on our second floor attic. Ha.
I love that you are going into August with a good mood and lots of fun things to look forward to! And you’re healthy in more ways than one!
Thank you Stephany!!!
I’m happy that this year feels better! You’ve made a lot of positive and healthy changes which are making a difference 🙂
Your perspective point is SO important. Once you realize all the junk that needs to be cut out of your life so you can spend your time on things/people that make you happy, things get so much better. I just finally figured that out this year myself!
Thank you!
I am glad you figured it out too! I feel like it just takes time and experiencing different things to get there. And I know it will change over time but right now I have a pretty good idea of what fulfills me!
Yay for a better August! August is my birthday month, so I love it, but I thinks sometimes it feels like the end of summer and that bums some people out. Yay for being healthy and having plans!
Yay! When is your birthday?!
Silly people, summer is until late September 😉 But school starting in August confuses everyone about that.
I am so thrilled you are running again, friend. It’s the worst if you can’t run but want to!
Well, we are more than halfway through August and I hope that it is as wonderful in reality as it was in anticipation! 🙂
It has been!
