When I was out of town last weekend, Steven sent me photos that some of the seeds we planted were starting to pop up!
Check out the beets on May 27:
Versus on June 1:
Things REALLY took off this week! It’s been fun to see everything grow so fast. I really enjoy seeing the mounds of dirt created before something pops out of the ground!
Tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, & cilantro
green beans, beets, carrot, & pepper
We had been waiting to pull weeds until we could tell what was what, and I finally did Thursday night and it was so satisfying! (We still need to thin out the plants too – not sure if that will be satisfying or sad!)
Steven sprinkled cinnamon in the beds (in case you were wondering what all the orange is) – we have a lot of ants and Steven read that will deter them.
Steven also set up a drip irrigation system (Amazon Affiliate Link) while I was gone.
The kit he bought came with two-way connectors, tee-connectors, 100′ of tubing, and emitters, to set up the system exactly how he wanted it. The emitters have four settings – closed/off, small spray, medium spray, and large spray.
Steven put the emitters in and set them all to large spray, then used the tubing and tee-connectors to connect them all. He hooked the tubing up to the hose with a two-way connector, and used an app and a valve or something (that didn’t come with the drip irrigation system) to put them on a timing system so he can control them remotely. Voila!
There has been some adjusting of the emitters and soil to make the water get to where we need it, but it’s been working well.
We won’t have produce for 50-90 days on most of these, so in July (which I am going to be gone for A LOT of, so that kind of stinks) and through August.

Wow, your garden looks awesome. I’ll take some of everything except maybe the beets!
Thank you! That is the thing I am least excited for too, LOL!
Wow, you’re so organized. I should definitely make a spreadsheet myself LOL although I don’t even have half of stuff to keep track of… I agree, it’s so exciting to see when things first start growing. It feels like it’s happening over night.
Thanks! Def make a spreadsheet – they are so satisfying!!! It does feel that way! How is your garden doing?
Woohoo! That’s so exciting that you’re seeing so much growth in the garden already. That bodes well (hopefully)!
I hope so! I can’t wait to see the first edible thing that grows (well, besides beet leaves – I wasn’t about to eat those).
What fun! And how far we have come since the days my dad tried to put in something similar (~20 years ago) and had to buy each and every piece one-by-one at a Lowe’s or something like that. π Can’t wait to see the outcome! Oh, and I’ll take some of your beets, for sure. π
Steven totally would have done that if he had to (and enjoyed it, ha!) but I am glad this option exists now.
I would LOVE to give you some beets LOL!
