A few notes from the weekend! (I’m changing the language from “highlights” to “happenings” and “notes” so I can talk about all the things I spend my weekends on, not just highlights.)

Friday

  • I ran before work and listened to the Emma Bates interview on the Ali on the Run podcast. She came in 5th at the Boston Marathon last Monday. I wish I could have watched it but enjoyed listening to the podcast.
  • After my run I came home to two cats in the driveway. It was Tywin and a black cat we don’t know (but is friendly). Once I pulled into the garage Tywin came running down the driveway then walked through the garage into the house. What a goober (I took him outside and gave him food but his black cat friend disappeared).
  • I got answers from the vascular doctor. I feel some relief and gratitude for knowing what’s going on with my body, but weird feelings about taking meds every day for the rest of my life. I’m sure that’ll go away.
  • We went to Cinnaholic. It’s a build-your-own cinnamon roll place that is entirely vegan! We both got a premade style to try after lunch and a slice of coffee cake.
  • We picked up El Famous and ate it at the warehouse before going back to work. El Famous was so good and the cinnamon roll was pretty good – it would have been better if we ate it hot right after we got it.
  • I registered for the 5K we are running June 4th. Yay! I’m excited!
  • I had a FaceTime call with Val. We talked for two hours and I loved it.
  • I took Apollo out in the cat stroller to the mailbox and a bit on our street. I think he liked it!
  • We went out for dinner with Jen and Troy at Tammy’s. We always have a fun time with them, but whoa, the service was slow and we were there a long time (3 hours) and I felt so tired when I left that I was wobbly and felt a bit drunk (I wasn’t drinking!). I definitely turn in to pumpkin after 9:00 pm.

Saturday

  • I walked while listening to podcasts. One was about burnout and their 7 signs of burnout really spoke to me – I think I related to 6 of them.
    • Exhaustion – things feel never ending, no time to relax or recover
    • Overwhelmed – breaking down and feeling more emotional over small things
    • Disconnected – from relationships and the real world, not feeling highs and lows
    • Family and friends making comments on it – do they seem annoyed or talk about how much you’re working?
    • Out of ideas – not feeling creative
    • Guilt – Feel like you’re letting people down
    • Anxious – heightened anxiety, difficult time relaxing, upset much easier, difficulty sleeping
  • I took a bath and had a homemade chai (from Tazo mix. I can’t believe I haven’t been to Starbucks yet this month!)
  • I listened to more podcasts while being productive. I picked up sticks, weeded, did laundry, prepped produce, and did all of our paper shredding. There was some odd sleet/hail going on while we were doing yard work!
  • I took an hour nap! I felt so sleepy at lunch and was like, “I really need a nap so I have energy for my date with Rachel!”
  • I talked to Mom (and Dad) on the drive to the stadium. I’m excited to see them twice in May!
  • I had a wonderful time at the game with Rachel.
    • She brought a flavored water drink I really liked – I have never had one I liked before. This one is called Bubbl’r and doesn’t have artificial sugar and had caffeine. I tried the raspberry flavor and would love to try more.
    • Rachel had some nice gifts for me and the cats! She’s so sweet.
    • There was stadium giveaway – a tumbler with one of the player’s name and Jersey number on it.
    • We had such a wonderful time chatting and catching up!
  • I started Tiffany Haddish’s memoir The Last Black Unicorn on audiobook on the way home. Her reading of it is hilarious! I’m excited to listen to more.
  • Baseball games are a lot shorter now due to timing rules and I got home an hour earlier than planned! Woo hoo!

Sunday

  • We fit our run in before morning errands. We wanted to run together but also had to get plywood from Home Depot so we drove with the trailer to the preserve and it saved us a lot of time (we also stopped at Aldi). I feel really good when I perceive that I am saving time and being efficient.
    • During our run warmup someone at the preserve said to me “are you dropping today?” And I said “yeah, just one!” They were asking if I was hiding a rock and Steven had all these questions about how I knew what they were talking about who they were and if I still interact with that Facebook group. Ha. I’m not sure, my mouth worked ahead of my brain with that response! I don’t recall who they are and spend as little time on Facebook as possible so I’m really out of touch with that group!
  • We got the garden beds leveled. It was a lot of work! We brought the skid steer over there to dig out that part of the yard then level it, and that part of our yard is so rocky it wasn’t smooth sailing. We worked on it for a few hours and called it. We had originally planned to fill the beds too (we had soil dropped off Friday) but we pushed that to next Sunday.
  • I think I was asleep by 9:00 pm. I was spent! I didn’t even paint after dinner. I haven’t really painted in a week. I just have felt a bit too fried. Maybe I will this week.
