When Tiff, Val, and I picked the weekend for our trip to Kansas City, I immediately looked into races that were happening because Val runs regularly, and Tiff runs occasionally… so why not? I was excited to see the Trolley Run was going on when we’d be there (April 24th)! I ran it in 2011 and remember it being well organized and all down hill. Tiff, Val, and I all signed up for the 4-mile race (there is an 8-mile race that goes back up the hill… gross).

It’s a point-to-point race, and you go to the finish to get bused to the start. When we were looking in to wakeup time for the race I realized we were only a 20 min walk from the finish! I was really excited to not have to think about finding a parking spot.

We left the Airbnb at 6:30, walked to the finish, and immediately got on a bus. We were dropped off, had time for Tiff to go to the bathroom, then our corral went off at 7:28. Everything was timed perfectly!

The weather was great and our goal was to take it easy and stick together, and that is what we did! The miles ticked by fast, since we were chatting, and before we knew it, we were done (so cliché to say, but true). Edited to add: our time was 46:52. Ha, I so out of touch with writing race recaps, I forgot to add that.

We got water, did the free finish line photos (and apparently all race photos were free!), Tiff stretched, then we got breakfast at Panera and walked back to the Airbnb.

Super uneventful, but really, that was perfect for my first race back since before the pandemic. We all enjoyed it and are looking at races for our next get together in September.

Oh, and random! They gave you the finisher medal at packet pickup the day before, because you could elect NOT to get one, so they wanted to make sure they gave them to the right people. Makes sense, but feels odd to get it before the race!

I like the race shirt and have been wearing it!
