- It’s getting cold enough that Starbuck will sometimes sit on my lap on the couch for a bit! This is a big deal to us. Even though all three cats sleep on me at night, they never sit on our laps, except sometimes, Starbuck. Data was such a lap cat. All you had to do was sit down and put a blanket on your lap and he was there. Sometimes he’d be sitting on Steven’s lap in the couch and I’d sit down next to them and get the blanket out and he’d come right over. Muah ha ha.
- I ordered the cats a new toy for Christmas along with my face masks but I caved and gave it to them right away. Ha. I’ll have to try again, closer to the holiday.
It’s a MadRat from Tacocat Creations
- Speaking of Christmas, I know what we’ll be doing that day – watching Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max… either streaming from our phone or computer since we can’t use our Roku. Sigh, but yay for it coming to streaming! It was one of the movies I really wanted to see in theaters this year. We’re still considering renting an entire theater and doing a private screening for Steven’s milestone birthday in 2020, but at this (COVID-19 positivity) rate, it would just be us two there.
- I miss new movies so much. Redbox sent me a streaming discount yesterday and I was like, “let’s just watch something NEW!” So we watched Bill & Ted Face the Music. Not amazing, but it definitely made me laugh. (What’s making me laugh even more this week? Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. My gosh, it’s so ridiculous.)
- We weren’t even sure we’d be able to stream a movie. We’ve been trying several internet providers, and have updated all our equipment, and look at the towers with the best signals to point to, but our internet is still mostly unreliable. I really appreciate Steven working so hard to get it to somewhat work!
- I had an important meeting Monday and I said to Steven how I hoped the internet wouldn’t cut out during it, and of course, it did. I got on my work phone (which barely works out here but that’s a complaint for another day) and realized you could see more of me on it – meaning you could see I had a nice jacket and blouse on but was wearing jeans. Ha. Oh well. At the end of the call we all joked about my bad internet (we don’t have cable available here so we point an antenna toward a tower). At least people are super understanding! It worked great here for years, until COVID-times.
- And speaking of COVID-times… it looks like Illinois is closing a bunch of things again… maybe? I haven’t paid as close of attention as before since I leave the house to run, get groceries/prescription, stop at Starbucks, pick up takeout, and get my nails done. I think it will affect going in to Starbucks, and getting my nails done. I am still vigilant about wearing my mask, and don’t quite have COVID-fatigue, but we never started socializing again, or going out to eat or anything, so not much is changing for us.
You were in my dream last night- you decided to detour to Maine on your way to see family for Christmas (ha because that is not at all out of the way). And you had a little squirrel that you kept in the pouch on your sweatshirt and fed bottles. I think I’m starting to lose it 🙂
OMG I am honored!!! You are NOT losing it. I was addressing your holiday card last week and thinking “I need to get to ME to meet Kiersten” and we recently had to rehome a flying squirrel that I would love to keep as a pet so… you are basically psychic!
(I am now remembering I had odd dreams about specific people last night but now cannot remember who! Ha!)
Glad you don’t think I’m a creeper 😉 we are locking down again here too, so I’m not seeing any friends IRL so I guess my blog friends are on my mind. I’m weirdly missing movies too although I think I’ve only been to 1 in the almost 4 years since Cooper was born.
Not at all! <3 It makes sense to think of the people we see on social, right?!
Did you watch them at home? I miss having new stuff for home, too! Has Cooper been to the movies?
There was brief window where Cooper slept reliably enough for me to stay up and watch a movie after he was in bed, but now I’m back to the 8:30 bedtime. I was hoping to bring him to the movies this year- but I guess that is another thing that will have to wait. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts- it’s been hard- thank goodness I have running to relieve some stress.
Quarantining without good internet would probably have been the death of me. Is satellite internet available where you are? I know it’s a popular thing around here because a lot of people live in the country.
We saw the new Borat movie (loved it) and it’s renewed my saying of “very nice” in a Borat voice. Everyone love that. HA!
I’ve been tempted to rent a movie theater as it’s like $49, but ehhhhhh, there’s only about three people I’d feel comfortable inviting. And, are there any movies available to watch? Obviously I haven’t looked into it much, but it does sound like a cool thing to do and it’s affordable right now.
We are looking in to satellite internet! We are wondering if we can use Tesla’s “Better Than Nothing Beta.”
I could not believe how much I was laughing. Then I was looking up how much of it was real and how the “actors” didn’t know what was going on (like at the debutante ball) and it’s just the ridiculousness I need in my life right now. Very nice indeed!
I would love the normalcy of it that I would pay for a small group (us two) IF It was a new movie. Tenet is still out and some more meh stuff and Wonder Woman 1984 is coming to theaters like a week or two before xmas. I definitely don’t want to pay to watch Home Alone or something I can watch at home… I want to see something NEW!!!
Every time you mention Tacocat, I go on their Etsy shop and find a million things I want to buy the girls! Haha. I should place a nice little order for them for Christmas.
My cats aren’t lap cats either. Lila will snuggle with me if I’m laying in bed, but not when I’m on the couch.
Yes! I recommended the Mew Mice and the MadRats! I want to try one of the mats too! Do your girls like cat nip? Our cats go nuts when these come since they have nip!
Isn’t it odd? Like, what’s wrong with the couch?! I want cat snuggles all the time!
Do you have any Apple devices? MacBook/iPad/iPhones? I learned over the weekend that you can Airplay Apple devices onto Rokus. I had a ticket to a virtual concert that I pulled up on my MacBook, and since it was on the same wi-fi network as the Roku, all I had to do was click the Airplay icon and boom! It appeared on the TV! Honestly it was more straightforward than the time I tried to connect my MacBook to an Apple TV to Airplay that way, haha. I was raving about it and apparently that’s Roku’s solution for HBO Max: open it on your Apple device and then Airplay it to Roku using “Roku Premiere.” It was SUPER easy and straightforward! But of course that only works if you have Apple devices.
I have an iPhone and I think I can push to the ROKU now that I’ve had the update. Steven pushed from his Android to watch the original Wonder Woman this weekend and it was a bit delayed and affected everyone’s voices in the movie. It was pretty funny. I wonder if my phone will be better – I bet so based on what you said. I am glad you could watch your concert!
We’ve been pretty much in lockdown since March, so even though our governor put a curfew in place (10 pm to 5 am), nothing much changes for us. I only go out to run and to get groceries. I am actually looking forward to an extra quiet holiday season.
Also: I wish I had a cat that would sit on my lap.
I’m glad the curfew doesn’t affect you and that you are looking forward to a quiet holiday season. I can’t remember if I said this yet, but we had a really quiet Christmas last year and it was nice.
Sigh. Yes!!!! It’s the best!
