The idea for this post is 100% copied from the radio station I listen to* – they were asking people to call in and answer this question last Friday:
What was the last concert you attended?
I bet you’ll never guess which band you were seeing!
Of course, asking this question to passionate music fans on the radio, they all had answers in the last year, or even early this year, pre COVID-19 hitting the states. But I am curious about YOU – was it recent? Or are concerts not really your thing?
I didn’t think concerts were my thing, but I can think of four I went to in the last year+:
And three I had tickets to this year that were postponed or canceled:
- Foreigner
- Steve Miller Band
- Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, & Joan Jett
So apparently concerts are my thing, when it’s rock, and ideally, at a small venue where I won’t freak the eff out from being in a large crowd.
I’m hoping the concerts that were postponed happen, but I’m feeling doubtful. Would you want to stand right next to someone and sing along/yell for a few hours?
*I’ve been really in to listening to the radio on my weekday morning runs. I never listened to the radio while running until our stay-at-home order started, but I miss hearing it during my commute. I miss the banter, the music… even the commercials! It makes me feel connected to be listening to something live.
You know what’s so weird though? When you look up what the hosts of the radio station look like, and it’s NOTHING like you imagined they did! Ha!
I can’t even remember the last concert I went to… I think I’ve been to maybe one or two since having kids but I’m drawing a blank. I went to a few a year prior to having kids though. The last one I can remember specifically was seeing the Toadies at a small venue in DC when I was pregnant with my son in 2013!
I will have to look up who the Toadies are! I don’t even know! 😮
Dixie Chicks! Probably around 2002/03/04 – we had seats so close that I could see the hair on the arms of the fiddler. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to, hands down. That was probably the last big group who came to our town, and we just have not been interested in driving to Houston or Austin to see anyone else.
I am with you at not wanting to stand that close to someone else (as one does) at a concert just yet. Sad that such a fun event is questionable now.
Oh fun! And those are close seats, wow!
I am with you on not wanting to go to a big city to see someone – The Rolling Stones in Chicago was an exception. I prefer this small venue by our house.
It is sad. Especially for people who go often and really love it!
I went to a BSB concert last year, so that’s why I can easily answer this question! But if the pandemic had happened in 2019 – I don’t know if I would have been able to answer it! I don’t attend many concerts, but I really, really enjoyed BSB and it made me wanted to go to more. Great time to have THAT realization, ha.
Oh that’s right! I am so glad that was last year! I hope you do get to attend more!
Jonas Brothers in December! Sigh. I hadn’t been to any big arena concerts for awhile before the two Jonas Brothers shows I went to last year, and I forgot how fun they can be. I didn’t have any concerts on my calendar for this year (though I expected the Jonas Brothers would tour again, and I hoped to go). We did have tickets to two musicals, though, one of which was outright cancelled and the other of which was postponed until I think Februaryish of next year? I can’t remember. Some time that still seemed way earlier than an indoor show in a crowded theater would happen. We also have tickets to another show next January/February, which hasn’t been cancelled/postponed yet, but I’m almost positive it will be. Someday we’ll see live entertainment again…
OMG can you imagine if that concert was this year?!?!?! Gah, I mean, you had just seen them and had the VIP experience but it would have been so sad to have that one canceled!
I really can’t imagine any show in the fall/winter/early spring happening, you know? I do hope we can have some outdoor socially distanced concerts next summer… maybe?! Although I am not sure how much of a lawn concert fan I am.
I know. I think we are SO far away from (safely) having large groups in indoor spaces, unless things majorly change in terms of treatment/vaccination, or unless scientists can really nail down who exactly is at high risk of severe complications. My Broadway obsession was fun while it lasted, ha. I’m sure I’ll appreciate shows much more once I can go to them again!
Concerts are not my thing. The last one I went to was a very small venue in 2016! I’m not even sure that’s a concert, maybe it’s a “show.” I haven’t ever been to one in a big arena.
Your * note about the radio hosts made my laugh. My dad once offhandedly made a remark that he saw an ugly baby who reminded him of Garrison Keillor. I don’t know what GK looked like, and for a long time, I just imagined him looking like a giant baby!
Shows are more your thing, right? What was the last show you went to?
LOL I am very glad I just googled Garrison Keillor. Ha!
