Notes:
- For Tuesday’s run I was planning on 5 miles including speedwork but when I walked out the door and felt a wonderful cool breeze, I went back in the house and got a bigger water bottle and two gels, and ran 10 instead. I didn’t have my gaiters, hadn’t used body glide, and hadn’t had breakfast, but it worked out great!
- When I was in town for my massage (it felt so good! I need four more!) I met Kathie and Kristi, sisters and students from Efit, for a walk. It was so nice to chat and catch up – and a beautiful day for it too.
- I went out on Friday’s run feeling like I might turn back early. Then I warmed up and got in to a groove and decided to go longer. Then it got overcast and breezy and I felt even better! Then I saw lightening and checked my weather app and saw I was going to be running in a storm in an hour. So I didn’t go longer, ha.
- We had high dew points Saturday and Sunday but I felt strong during my runs! Woot! I kept telling myself to keep my heart rate low and not push it. On Sunday’s run I told myself if it felt horrible I could turn back early, but I felt great (minus stomach cramps) and rain farther than planned! And my last two miles were the fastest. That’s been happening on my long runs sometimes. I think it’s because my last two and a half miles are on the roads after being on the trails and my legs feel like they can turnover faster.
- Check out this stat on how more our county forest preserves have been used due to the pandemic (from here, pdf here): “Since mid-March, records have been set for forest preserve usage. “Overall visitation in May was 18% greater than the busiest summer weekend in any of the previous four years,” said John Nelson, director of operations and infrastructure. “Daily average visitation in April was 60% greater than the busiest summer weekend in any of the previous four years,” he said.” Unfortunately, that article also says they’ll lose an estimated million dollars in revenue due to the pandemic – ““We are also losing revenue from catering, concessions and equipment rentals at Independence Grove, and from the cancellation of banquets, meetings and outings at the Greenbelt Cultural Center and a few of our golf courses.” UGH.
