In December I made a 2020 To Do List with 7 categories and 21 “To Dos.” I’ll post an update on it every three months. Here’s my progress thus far!
Note: bolded items have been updated with comments, bolded ✔ items have been completed.
Relationships
- ✔ Go on a trip with Steven to someplace new-to-us – completed! I was intending for this to be a trip for just us two, but I’m not sure that will happen this year, so let’s count Atlanta!
- Play with the cats more – working on it! We are consciously spending more play time with them.
- Continue to remember everyone has different communication styles and preferences – and I don’t need to understand or agree with them to accept them. Yep, reminding myself of this weekly, if not daily!
Home
- FINISH THE GARAGE!
- Bring the Datsun home!
- Sort through items that have been in storage boxes in basement since we moved in in February 2016
Money
- Continue to put money in to savings
- Spend less at Bath & Body Works and Starbucks – I went to Bath & Body Works twice and redeemed a free item. I got Starbucks several times using gift cards… but I also spent $50 in gift cards for other people. So I’ve technically spent $0 on myself at both places… er…
- Find a new affordable way to get custom 2×3 magnets – working on it. I tried the Walgreens magnets in January. They were expensive, poor quality, and smaller than advertised. I won’t be using them again. In March I tried 3×3 magnets from Shitterfly. They’re the wrong size but the price and quality is great. Hmm.
Fitness
- ✔ Run in a new-to-me state – I ran in Georgia, twice!
- Run a race with a friend
- Get back to making playlists for my classes – I’ve been better about this! I had the epiphany that now that I don’t have any students who take my Monday and Friday class, I can use the same playlist for both. Booyah!
Beauty
- Find a lipstick that looks nice on me and wear it
- Get regular haircuts – I found a new stylist I like and have a reminder in my calendar to set up regular appointments!
- Learn to style my hair
Reading
- ✔ Read a Harry Potter book – completed! I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in February and enjoyed it! (Enough that I read the second book in March and plan to continue the series.)
- ✔ Read a Stephen King book – completed! I finished Sleeping Beauties on Thursday.
- Read 50 books in 2020 – I’ve read 25 books so far this year.
Work
- Apply for the supervisor role – this opening hasn’t been announced yet, and it won’t be for a while, if at all. I have worked on interview prep and resume prep though (it’s very different for federal jobs!).
- Lean on my teams for support – On projects with good teams, I’ve been able to do this and it’s been amazing to share the load. On other projects, people expect me to do everything, and that’s draining (and I ask them to participate in doing their job, to the extent it’s appropriate for me to ask).
- Quit being so snarky and whiny – I’ve started a lot of snarky chats and deleted them. Go me! And I’ve been mindful to ask if someone is in the mood for a much-needed vent sesh before I start, and to also talk about positive things, too.
You’ve already read 25 books this year? Wow! I finally got one via Amazon Prime free reads for my Kindle app…hard for me to believe that I used to be a voracious reader. I blame knitting, ha!
What year Datsun is your car? I remember when they first came out.
Yeah! I used to get a lot of reading done on the commute, so staying at home has me reading a bit less now. Which read did you pick out on Amazon First Reads? I always pick one but don’t always read them (I just read my October 2019 pick!). And yes, we all have our hobbies! I wonder how long I will be in the reading hobby phase.
It’s a 1978 280Z! It’s a fun ride. I can’t wait to have it here. We kind of need to finish the driveway in front of Dragonstone to be able to get it in to the garage though. Ha.
I got The Overdue Life of Amy Byler – so far so good (I’m only on the first chapter because I started reading it late last night and of course, fell asleep).
OOH, a 280Z!! That was a freaking cool car! One of my parent’s friends had one; it was too expensive for any of my high school friends to own one back then – we were the VW Bug generation. (I started HS fall of 1977 for reference). Yes I sound ancient but I swear I’m not!!
I remember really liking that one! It taught me the word “rumsprina.” 😉
Yes! The poor man’s Corvette (or maybe it was Porsche, eek, I should know)! Ha, funny it was too expensive back then – I wonder how much they cost when they were new! VW Bugs are pretty schweet. Do any of your friends still have one? And I know you are not ancient! :-*
25 books already? Girl, you are going to CRUSH your goal of reading 50 books this year! Nice work!
I love your playlist goal. I had a spin instructor who NEVER EVER changed her playlist. I went to her class for about 6 months and it was always the same (and the songs weren’t even that great to begin with!) I finally had to stop going because I was so annoyed by it, lol.
Thank you! I think so too. Last year I read 59 and I think I will pass that for sure!
Thanks for that feedback – I’d feel the same way; I can’t hear the same thing all the time! Blah! I think some people just don’t care about music but it’s a big deal to me when I work out!
You’ve made a lot of progress, especially on the reading front. How do you feel like you’re doing? (Better than you expected at this point in the year?)
I guess the haircut one is a little tough at the moment, but you can learn to style your hair at home now?
Thanks! I feel like I am doing pretty good, except for in the “home” category! I was thinking that about learning to style my hair now. Like, now would REALLY be the time to spend time at home doing that, right?! Except, I’d rather go through those boxes in my basement, ha!
Well I finished one book this year (that you started after me and finished before me LOL) *pats self on back* I really do like reading when it’s a really good book, but I guess my problem is finding books I actually want to stick with!
I always thought your playlists were fun! I had a trainer like Stephany described back in Chicago – SAME playlist in the SAME order in EVERY.SINGLE.CLASS. So boring. My trainer now uses a lot of the same playlists, but they each have different themes. She’s also gotten feedback that people pretty much unanimously love throwback playlists, so she uses those more than she used to. So it couldn’t hurt to ask your class for feedback on that too!
Is this supervisor role similar to the detail you did last year (I think? or was that 2 years ago?) and really enjoyed?
Finishing one book is awesome! I have only recently gotten in to reading and there were years I was like that – maybe would read one or two books, because I read non-fiction and it was a bit dry. Once I started reading fiction, I started reading a lot more!
Thank you! I would get so bored with the same music all the time! Even the playlists I use for myself on repeat have a day’s worth of music in them. What style of throwbacks? Like grunge, hip hop, etc? Any genre? I do ask my class, but I should ask them again when we go back so it’s extra special. Ha.
It’s similar in that they are both team lead/supervisor roles, but this one is over the team I am on now, and I did a detail for last May through October. The one you are thinking of that I loved so much was two years ago on a different team 🙁 I’d love to be on that team because all the clients are internal. Ha.
I love fiction (and historical fiction) but have a hard time finding books I can really get sucked into.
The throwbacks are generally pop and hip-hop from different time periods (80’s, 90’s, 00’s). I like them because it’s stuff I really liked when it was new but never listen to now.
That detail really was 2 years ago already?! Geez. I switched from external to internal clients when I joined my current team 6 years ago and I love it! I can be my best (bitchiest haha) self with internal clients but couldn’t externally.
I’ll let you know if I run across any with an unputdownable rating! There is so much WWII historical fiction out there right now. It’s hard to tell what to read; it all kind of blurs together.
Oh fun! I love music like that for the same reason. I even have my own throwback (hip hop) playlist on my phone.
I know, crazy, right? Sept 2017 – Feb 2018. Sniff, sniff. YES, that is why I want to be on THAT team. You can be more upfront and it’s a lot less stress (for me it was, anyway).
