- I am really trying not to only talk about COVID-19, but that’s what a lot of this is! Let’s get those bullets out of the way first:
- I was really anxious about grocery shopping this week. I already have shopping anxiety about being around people and stores not having what we want, and pair that with people hoarding due to COVID-19, and, yeah, I was worried. But it went fine. We went to Aldi and they had almost everything we needed, then stopped at Fresh Thyme to get what they didn’t have. There were lots of people out, but they all acted politely. And there does NOT seem to be a shortage on vegan products, except plant-based milk!
- I felt bad canceling my manicure/pedicure for today. Right after I did, I noticed I had an email from the salon saying they were closing for two weeks. That made me feel better about my decision to cancel, but I still feel bad about Lorena’s monetary well-being.
- When the library announced they were closing they said to not return any due material, because there are no late fees. I am a rule follower so I was immediately like “BUT MY RECORD WILL BE MARRED NOW!” I logged in yesterday prepared to see all the one-week movie rentals I took out say “past due,” and I saw that they had extended the due dates on them. Woo hoo!
- POLL! Do you write “canceled” or “cancelled”? Apparently canceled with one L is the American spelling, which I use, but I have seen lots of people using it with two!

- Our transfer to the new branch at work was official this week, and we were told our new in office day will be Tuesday when we all start coming back in.
- Media consumption update! We finished The Outsider (liked it) and McMillions (eh) on HBO. We watched Knives Out (good!), Midway (bad acting and script, but entertaining), and Uncut Gems (too chaotic – did not finish).
- I don’t have any related photos to this post, but here’s a freaky carrot that was in the baby carrot bag yesterday, and Apollo practicing fire safety.
I saw a post that said to support beauty businesses when you have to cancel, instead purchase a gift card that you can use when they reopen. ❤️
I’ve seen that too! 🙂 Not sure how to get one since they are closed though – maybe they will make them available online! (I was planning to give a big tip to Lorena, I wish I could ask how she is doing.)
That’s really nice of the library to extend due dates! I still haven’t figure out how to check out library books on my Kindle, but I have a feeling that will be happening soon.
I’ve noticed I switch back and forth between canceled and cancelled. Not sure why. But it’s good to know why spellcheck thinks they’re both acceptable!
And they also made it so you can have more books out on Libby! I bet you will be figuring that out soon, too 😉
I kept thinking I was spelling it wrong when I used one so I had to look it up!
I haven’t noticed any crazy behaviors while grocery shopping, either! It’s just very busy, lol.
I have a hair appointment scheduled for next Saturday and our salon hasn’t sent ONE email about how they are treating COVID-19. It’s crazy! My mom went last week (we go to the same salon) and she said all the stylists were wearing masks, which is dumb because that’s not how to protect against the virus, sigh. I’ll probably cancel my appointment, though. I am sad for nail salons and such, businesses that rely so heavily on customers and have to close.
Oof, sorry your in-office date is changing. That’s going to be quite the shift for your schedule, I would assume. Wah!
I am glad it hasn’t been crazy for you, just crazy busy.
I was surprised I hadn’t seen anything from the nail salon and had to cancel on my own! And there it was, an email sent 30 mins before, lol. So I am surprised your salon hasn’t said boo either. Have many places there? IL is practically shut down. It seems like FL is not? I’d cancel too, especially if your salon is a busy place. I hope if they close temporarily it does not put them under and things can open up asap! OMG I JUST REMEMBERED I had a dream I was at the nail salon and they only had a few desks there, due to COVID-19. WTF, Kim.
Yeah, it’s gonna make the beginnings of my weeks really hectic since I work all day Monday, get home late from teaching, then have to get up early to go downtown. BLAH 🙂
I’ve been to Jewel twice recently, and there were never any major crowds (though it was a different story on Friday – I know someone who went and the line stretched to the liquor department, which is on the edge of the store), but availability has been very hit or miss. By the second time I went, they had started limiting how much eggs and milk you could purchase. I’m hoping bread is next. The only bread that they’ve had when I’ve been is cinnamon swirl bread (which ???? Doesn’t everyone realize that’s the best bread?!) the first time and hot dog buns the second time. I get a kick out of some of the patterns, though – like all of the Jewel brand pasta sauce was completely gone on Sunday, but they had full stock of all the expensive stuff, and yesterday there was barely any creamy peanut butter, but plenty of crunchy. I like that people are like, “I’m panic buying, but I’m not THAT panicked. I still have standards.” Hahaha.
I did not know that “canceled” was the American spelling! Apparently I’m British, because I always spell it “cancelled” – though incidentally, yesterday I was texting someone about something being canceled, forgot the second “l”, and was surprised that I didn’t get an autocorrect. Now I know why!
I saw your comment to Erin about Libby – I was SHOCKED when I went into Libby yesterday at how much was available! I was able to check out Crazy Rich Asians – just check it out! No wait or anything! Admittedly I haven’t tried to check it out before, but I can’t imagine that I normally would’ve been able to get it without a hold? I’m betting the library bought additional licenses so more people could get eBooks. Still no Beyond the Point, though – I checked 🙁 Someday! Now I just need to figure out how to build reading time into my life, ha. Normally I read while I workout on cardio machines at the gym (gym is closed) or while commuting on public transportation (I’m working from home “until the end of the month,” which I’m sure will end up being, like, the end of the summer), so it’s weird to have to make time to read!
Ha, I saw something about people buying out all the water, but not Dasani (cause it’s GROSS) – you are right – people still have standards! Too funny (but not really, right?). I am glad you are finding what you need, especially that yummy cinnamon swirl bread!
I don’t think I ever would have learned about canceled vs cancelled if it wasn’t for all these cancellations (which always has two Ls)!
Crazy Rich Asians has been available in there for a few weeks or months – at least for me! I was hoping I could get Oona Out of Order since it was one of my hard copies but there is ONE copy with like 68 people waiting for it, CRY. Did you put in the Beyond the Point hold?
I thought I would be reading more too, but I am not. I read the most when I commute. When do you think you will make time to read now? Are you running and listening to anything? How’s your PF?
CPL doesn’t even have Beyond the Point in their Libby library! *sobs* That’s the problem 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 I can’t put it on hold when they don’t have it at all 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 Even when I search for Claire Gibson, they don’t have anything at all. Boo. Hopefully someday soon!
I have NO IDEA when I’m going to make time to read, haha. I think I need to shift from evenings being TV time to evenings being reading time, or at least partial reading time. I don’t like to listen to anything when I run outside (which is all I’m able to do these days), but I have been running! Thankfully my PF has been getting a lot better. My insoles have helped a lot, as has friendlier mileage (15 or fewer miles per week, for now), and at my last podiatrist appointment, he talked me into buying a Spara (https://sparainc.com/products/one-spara-unit), which has helped me be more on top of rolling out my fascia, especially in the morning. He wanted me to wear my night split every night after I run, but that…has not happened, because I hate it. Ha. BUT it’s still improving, even without the night splint, so I think I’m okay with out it for now. I tried running back-to-back days earlier this week and that aggravated it, but I don’t normally do that anyway, so as long as I keep spacing my running out, I think I’ll hopefully continue on the right path towards happy feet!
NO WTF WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they add it soon! Here I thought our Libbys would have similar stuff, like Illinois was all linked up or something, but I guess not! 🙁
Reading instead of TV sounds so great! 🙂
I am so glad to hear your PF is feeling better and you can run some! Yay yay yay! That roller looks like a good idea! And omg the splint – I would wear one when I had it and hated it too. And always somehow came off, even though it was velcroed on. How?! Why? I hope you continue improving!
I had to look it up when I first started writing “canceled” because both ways looked correct to me. That’s when I discovered the American/British version…so mostly I’m American but sometimes for funsies I make it British, LOL.
Our stores are all still sold out of food. I keep hearing that they’re working hard to stock overnight but hmmm…it didn’t look good when I went to online order yesterday. First available day for pickup was next Tuesday!
Ha, when you’re feeling fancy you throw in that extra L 😉
Oh my gosh! Tuesday is so far away! I’m sorry. Do you have enough to get by until then?
We do, will probably run out of milk (and ice cream, sob!), but it’s fine. It’s just one more thing to remember – you probably aren’t getting anything in a normal time frame. Last night I ordered dry dog and cat food; normally we’d run by the pet store to pick some up when we were on the dregs of the bag, but decided to not wait that long. Good thing, because Amazon isn’t delivering it until Tuesday. It would have been a REAL TRAGEDY according to Paco and Henry if they couldn’t have all the food they wanted all the time.
NO NOT ICE CREAM! But you’re right, the pet food is the most important thing! You would have been in big trouble if you ran out 😉
I’m glad the grocery store wasn’t an awful experience for you. I keep hoping the panic buying will die down soon as people settle into this new way of life.
But onto the serious question: why did you put the fire screen there? Does it actually keep Apollo from getting near the fire, or did he just happen to sit behind it?
I felt like “McMillions” started out so strong and petered out by the end. Agent Doug was my favorite, by far.
I keep hoping that too. We watched Contagion last night and there is a looting scene and Steven was like “do you think it will come to that?” and I felt a little freaked out (don’t watch it, ha).
He just happened to sit behind it! It goes in front of the fire, but Steven moved it to start the fire.
Yeah, that is how we felt too. It should have been two hours. Ha, Agent Doug cracked me the hell up!
