- Aww, last week Jen said she was worried about me when I didn’t post my RTT. How sweet! I had one, but my bullet points were b-o-r-i-n-g. Things are ho hum and a bit stagnant lately. But here’s some of those bullets anyway:
- Last week was our four year anniversary of closing on and moving in to our current home. I thought about making a super long list of all the things we’ve changed on/added to our house but S-N-O-O-Z-E. We’ve done a lot, and I’m proud of us, but especially Steven – he’s the one with the vision and the drive!
- It’s been a while since I posted a garage update. There’s a lot we can’t do because of the weather, but Steven has been working on installing conduit and junction boxes for future flood lights. It’s easier to put the framework in now before the soffits are up. The only problem with that is we won’t have a lot of flexibility for adjusting flood light location later. We think they’re close enough to the right spot, though.
- I have to go to the office extra days this month to escort furniture installers. I don’t mind going in extra days, but was feeling bummed I wouldn’t get to see my coworkers – I’m pretty social at work. But the installers are all really nice, and they are playing my favorite classic rock radio station while they work, so it’s been okay so far!
- I was listening to an old work recording of a meeting I attended and heard a squeaky voice and the speaker said “thanks, Kim!” and eek… that squeaky voice was me?!
- My team is being moved to a new branch at work, and the rumor is that our “face day” (required day to come in to the office) will change from Wednesday to Tuesday, which makes me sad, because it means I can’t really do $5 movie night at the theater anymore. Ha, priorities. (Also, I teach Monday nights and kind of have a late night so I am not excited about getting up early every Tuesday after that, but oh well. It’s still just hearsay.)

Fingers crossed that your in-office day doesn’t change! Isn’t it weird how we sound so different to ourselves? I hate hearing a recorded version of my voice because it just isn’t how I hear myself.
Thanks! I am sure I will adapt if it does, I will just be so sad to miss movie night. Ha!!!
It’s so weird! I really did not know that was me!!!
Hearing your own voice is the worst! I think my real voice sounds so derpy and awkward. I read once that our voices sound different (to us) when recorded because when you speak, you pick up sound vibrations from two places: the air (like everyone hearing you does), and your own bones (I believe?), which are also vibrating due to the sound (I think it’s bones in your inner ear…or maybe it was your vocal cords? I don’t remember. It’s something in the head/neck region of your body, haha). The combination of those two vibrations is what makes up the sound you hear, but when you hear a recording, you’re only hearing the air vibration half, not the bone vibration half, which is why it sounds so weird. Crazy! I just remind myself that no one else knows how I “really” sound, and is used to my air vibration voice, and therefore probably doesn’t find it quite as repulsive as I do!
Oh wow! That is really interesting and makes a lot of sense as to why the recording sounded so goofy! I wonder what actors think when they hear themselves in a movie or singers, in a recording! Is that why they wear those headphones to hear themselves? Huh. So many questions. Thanks for sharing!
Fingers crossed that the new office day is just a nasty rumor!
I hate the sound of my own voice, too, it’s so cringey to hear it… Bethany’s explanation makes so much sense!
And hooray for installers that play decent music – what do you do while you’re there with them – can you get your own work done?
Yes! Keep them crossed! Hee hee.
It does make sense! I am glad she shared that!
Oh yeah, I have my computer and use my phone as a hot spot and work away! The only downside is I only have one screen (at home I have 4). I thought about bringing my portable external monitor but didn’t want the extra weight. π
Four years in your house? My how time flies (said in my Grandmother’s voice). I know you guys have done a lot to make it yours and it’s nice so see such pride of ownership.
Doesn’t it though? I sometimes still feel like we just moved in, when I get that giddy feeling coming down the driveway, or it being so quiet and peaceful (most of the time). π
I can’t be the only one who would be interested in a list of everything you’ve done and changed since you moved into your house! I’m always fascinated by that, but maybe that’s because I do a lot of research/writing about the home improvement industry. π
Are you doing work when you’re in the office on the weekends? Or helping the furniture installers?
Our voices always sounds SO different than what we think! I noticed that when I started doing videos on Instagram Stories. It’s still weird to hear my voice, even though I do videos on a semi-frequent basis.
I really hope your face day is just a rumor! You’ve been in that routine for so long that it would be hard to change it!
I should make a separate page that lists everything! We’ve done some big stuff but a lot of small projects too. Thanks for your interest!
When I worked last weekend I went back and forth from the dock to the build out space during delivery to make sure it went smoothly. When I am with the installers during the week I sit at a desk and do other work, until they have questions. And I check in on them every hour or so to ask how it’s going.
That’s crazy that you haven’t gotten used to it, even after doing video stories so often! Do you usually rewatch them after posting, or just before posting?
I hope it’s a rumor too! And that it’s not setting a standard for things to be decided without my team’s input on our new branch.
How long does a face-day period last before it changes day of the week?
I don’t think you have a squeaky voice! Maybe it was just the recording. (It does always sound weird to hear your own voice though.)
Usually the teams keep the same face day forever, as far as I’ve seen. And then we come in extra days as needed.
Phew, thanks π
