Notes:
- I really enjoyed the weather for Wednesday and Thursday’s runs – I could wear shorts with long sleeves and a vest. It felt good to not be so bundled up!
- I tripped over my own two feet on my Thursday run and fell hard on my left side and had the wind knocked out of me. I felt so crappy I immediately called Steven for a ride home. I got road rash on both knees, a cut on my left knee, and a cut on my right hand. The worst pain was in my left ribs on my side, though. Breathing, laughing, raising my left arm, and any core movement would bring a pain that would make me groan. It took me forever to get in to my pajamas and get in to bed that night. My boss taught my Friday am class for me, and I am grateful for that – I had a very limited range of motion. I’m embarrassed and frustrated this happened.
- I went to Immediate Care on Friday to confirm I didn’t have any broken ribs and I don’t (yay!) but they said the pain would last for a few more days and I needed to rest. They said I probably had internal inflammation from ripping cartilage away from my ribs, along with bruising. I overdid it Friday with getting groceries, then Saturday and Sunday with garage work, and felt horrible. I couldn’t bend over to pick anything up, I couldn’t lift anything using my left arm, a sneeze felt like someone was stabbing me in the ribs, and getting in and out of bed is HORRIBLE. I will probably actually rest this week. They said I can start exercising again when my body feels better.
Oh, that fall sounds bad! I’m glad nothing was broken but it sounds like you still need some rest. Hopefully you’ll feel better after that 🙂
Thanks! I hope so too. 🙂
Gosh, I am so sorry to hear about your injury – and ribs can be so painful and take a long time to heal. 🙁 Hopefully you are able to get enough rest and be back to your usual activities relatively soon…
I do think you are brave wearing shorts in 40° weather!!! That would still be way too cold for me! 😉
Thanks! I hope so too. I’ve heard they can take a long time to heal as well. Good thing I am not signed up for any races.
LOL! 40s without a major breeze feels great in shorts to me!
Yikes! Sorry to hear about your fall. Glad Steven could come get you so you didn’t have to run home after that!
I second Amy’s comment that rib injuries take a long time to heal. It took a while when I hurt my ribs after falling on front of the RL library a couple years ago, and that was relatively minor compared to your fall. Take it easy and listen to your body!
I am glad he could get me too! It felt horrible right away 🙁
Oh right, I forgot about that! 🙁 Did you just rest up? I am totally going to take it easy. I have no races planned, and had someone sub my class last night. The sucky part is that things like getting dressed, moving in bed, picking things up off the floor, wrapping presents, all cause immense pain. That’s gotta get better though!
Yep, I think I took a couple weeks off from running and classes (especially boxing!) and eased back in with a ton of modifications until that area felt stronger. Terry broke a rib about 5 years back and I want to say it took him about a month to get back to normal. I hope all the everyday things start feeling easier soon!
Did Immediate Care give you anything for the pain? If nothing else, it sounds like anti-inflammatories could help a little.
Thanks for telling me what you guys did! That is how I was planning to handle it too. I cannot imagine boxing right now! OUCH!!!!
They told me to take a certain amount of Motrin and Extra Strength Tylenol every 6 hours, so that is what I’ve been doing.
I’m behind on my blog reading but when I commented on your Insta I didn’t realize you hurt yourself this badly in your fall! So sorry you are dealing with that! Rib pain sounds awful! The fall I told you I had this summer was thankfully mostly superficial. I hope you are on the mend soon!
Thanks! I am feeling a lot better! I can do a lot more now. It’s just more of a dull ache. I am going to attempt a run this week! 🙂
