- Steven was in Kansas City last week for twenty-four hours, and got to meet Leo! I get to meet Leo this weekend!
- I finished The Martian, and liked it! The movie stays very close to the source, especially with the dialogue. There were a few omissions. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! The movie did not include the struggles Watney had on his journey to Schiaparelli (the dust storm and the rover crash), and changed up the rescue scene (in the book, Beck actually rescues Watney, and Watney doesn’t do his “Iron Man” move). And the movie added the scene at the end showing Watney teaching, and what is going on with the other astronauts, now that they’re back on earth. I’m looking forward to watching the movie again, since the book is fresh in my mind!
- I thought I was going to start reading Authority next, but when I went to the library, I was surprised to see my hold request for Becoming had been fulfilled! I am definitely reading that next! Especially since I have to read it in two weeks with no renewals.
- I also requested some Styx music so I can get ready for the concert in a few weeks!
- We finished The Sopranos on Monday, which was really interesting timing, with all the twenty year anniversary articles coming out about the debut of the show, and lots of other articles, especially about that last episode. We restarted Game of Thrones on Tuesday.

Wow, Steven met Leo before you! Are you jealous?? That’s a really sweet photo of the two of them!
I am trying to rush through these books (physical books!) that I got from the library. Will I finish in time???
I’m not! I am glad he could go meet him and have a bright part during his trip (he was there for a wake).
I hope you do! But I hope you still digest them. I hate that feeling of needing to rush through reading!
Leo is such a cutie!! So exciting that you get to meet him this weekend π
I’ve heard SO many good things about Becoming. I’ve heard it’s especially good as an audiobook, since Michelle Obama reads it. I don’t normally listen to audiobooks, but it’s available on Libby, so I might get it a try…in 22 weeks, which is how long the hold list is, hahaha. Apparently lots of people have heard it’s good as an audiobook!
I heard that about the audiobook too! I am not surprised at all that the hold list is that long. I was shocked I got the hard copy when I did (and I am liking it so far!).
I’m interested in hearing what you think about Michelle’s book – it’s on my list, but now that I see it’s on Audible, I might end up listening to her read it.
Leo is so cute! Glad you are getting to meet him this weekend. Enjoy those new baby snuggles!
I like it! It’s an easy, engaging read, and I like learning her story!
Thank you! I did! π
Yay! I’m glad you liked The Martian. And I hope you love Michelle Obama’s book as much as I did. SOOOO good. I loved how honest she was about being in the White House.
I am getting close to that part (I think), and look forward to it! So far it feels like she’s been super honest!
Oh, such a sweet little baby!
Two weeks is short to read a book like that! How many pages is it? My library only has Becoming in Dutch translation, so I’ll probably wait to borrow my friend Aisling’s copy she got for Christmas, or if we read it for book club later this year, buy a used copy…
I really liked the movie The Martian, have not read the book. I heard it was very technical, so not sure if I’ll ever get around to it. Just watched the new Netflix movie “Io” last night, which is a similar theme, it was kind of strange and a bit sad, but also oddly relaxing, and I enjoyed it.
I think it’s 400 pages! I am over halfway done with one week left to finish. Eek! I hope you get your hands on a copy in English! π
The book is very technical in parts, but I feel like you get used to it! I just made sure I wasn’t skimming or thinking of something else when I read those parts, and moved on. Ha. I will have to look Io up! I haven’t heard of it!
What a wonderful baby!
Thanks! π
I read The Martian and was a good 80% done when the movie first came out. So I finished the book a week after I saw the movie and was happy with both how closely the movie followed the book (with exceptions, as you listed) and how the movie really made the book come alive. I’ve since seen the movie 3 more times and it really does entertain each and every time.
Have you seen Styx live before?
Our opinion is definitely the same on the movie and book! π It’s impressive how the movie made the book come alive! Do you think you’ll read Artemis, Weir’s second novel?
I haven’t! Have you?
