For the first time in my life, I find myself without an appetite. Food seems to be of no interest to me. The only reason I am eating is to fuel my body.
Eating has been becoming more and more about “fueling my body” for some time now. But I was still looking forward to eating. Since Friday, coinciding with becoming sick, food seems to have become a big nuisance. A pain in the butt. A chore.
Yesterday, I took my entire regular food stash with me to work, plus some extra, hoping I would find my appetite. But all I ended up eating during the day, unwillingly, was instant oatmeal, two bites of a banana, soup and a roll, and a homemade granola bar.
Then I got home and ran 4 miles.
That felt wonderful.
NOT.
So. It’s time to force myself to eat. I know this may be a common phenomenon for people when they are sick, but it’s not for me. I love to eat. I always want to eat. I would get out of bed at 3:00 am if it was for a legitimate, scheduled meal.
I know my appetite will come back when I get better, but right now, I can’t taste anything. The thought of food makes me feel sick.
Blah blah blah. Wah wah wah. I’m sick. Boring post. Boo. Sorry. Something better tomorrow.
Off topic, but making me crazy: Has anyone else’s google reader been re-marking things “unread” after you’ve marked them “read”? Mine has been doing this for a few days and it’s making me crazy. Sometimes it sticks, and sometimes it flashes for awhile then goes away.
Oh no! So sorry you’re still feeling crappy and don’t want to eat. I love to eat, so I feel your pain. Especially – no eating before (what seems to me like) a long run seems yuck.
Drink your oj and tea and get better soon! 🙂
When I am not feeling great I always feel not hungry. When I am stressed I lose my appetite too. I feel exactly how you are describing, that food is just a giant pain in the butt. It is funny because now that I am finally on the right medicine, I am STARVING all the time. Seriously, I could eat all day long if I let myself. Maybe we switched appetites?
My Google Reader has been acting up, too. And yes, it is annoying. Hope you get your appetite back soon!
Ooh, having no appetite really throws me off! Hope you feel better soon!
My Google reader has been doing the same wonky thing. I’m glad I’m not the only one, I was distressed!
YES to Google Reader! It needs to cut it out! I don’t know what they’re doing over there but they need to hurry up and fix it!
Did you run 4 miles in Hopes that your appetite will come back? But at least you tried to eat.
Are you running the Half in Madison?
Wow 4 miles on an empty stomach! Proud of you for getting your run in even though you are feeling so cruddy, dont over do it though, you want to get healthy again!
I know I am REALLY sick if I have no appetite. Maybe I need to get sick to get the scale moving haha.
Feel better soon!
I am always the opposite too. When I am sick, I can still eat even though *what* I eat changes quite a bit. I really wish I was only eating to fuel my body, damn it.
I haven’t been eating for the past few days but that’s emotionally driven. And when I am sick I have to force myself to eat. If you can choose protein and good food when you do force yourself, it might help with your runs, right?
That last sentence sounded like I was talking about your bowels. Which I was not.
Yep, google reader is acting up!
Being sick sucks especially when food is the last thing on your mind and you have had enough soup and jello. I hope that you feel better soon!
I have a bad tendency to order Thai food when I am sick–it is usually the only thing that tastes good to me. I try to convince myself that the various herbs and seasonings involved help my immunity. 😉
I am impressed you were able to run, though! Hopefully this means you are coming down the tail end of the bug!
Also, add me to the group having weird issues with Google Reader.
Yep, my Google reader has been doing the exact same thing for a few days and it’s a little annoying.
Ditto on the Google reader!
I hope you get your appetite back soon. You need to properly fuel your body if you are running.
I hate when I dont have an appetite 🙁 hopefully yours will return soon!!!
i feel for you having no appetite!!! i’ve found that it seems that my life revolves around food (as much as i hate to admit that!) and i wish it didn’t… i wish i knew how to change that! i do hope you get to feeling better though!!!! being sick sucks and… having no appetite sucks!!! 🙂 (you must get to feeling better and get your appetite back otherwise i’m scared you’ll run yourself into a little bity tiny nothing!!!)
=^..^=
that’s always how i know i’m sick: no appetite. i ALWAYS have an appetite. even if i don’t have an appetite i’m always happy to eat 😉 unless i’m sick, and that’s how i know it’s serious 🙂
Feel better 🙂
I laughed out loud when you said you would get out of bed at 3am for a legitimate meal! Ha.
I have been waiting for about a decade for my appetite and love of food to GO AWAY.
I guess I just need a good kick-ass flu. 🙂
I hope you are feeling better soon 🙂
It’s weird, but you’re not the only one. Since I’ve given up sugar, much of the food I eat in its place has become boring. I don’t look forward to it at all. And I only eat because I force myself to do so just to maintain some semblance of an energy level. My stomach growls less. I am seeking out food much less often. All complete weirdness.
My google reader has been acting up too, so annoying. I don’t think I have ever not felt like eating, so I have no advice for you there but I hope you feel better soon.
You’ve been putting a lot of extra thought and energy into planning healthier meals while you are exercising and stuff so I bet that is some extra stress you didn’t even know you were dealing with. Being sick just made it more obvious because you can see that you just don’t want to devote the energy to it when you don’t feel well. To top it off, not having taste buds in their top shape will just make all food sound like cardboard and wallpaper paste instead of the tasty foods they are. LOL. I wouldn’t worry about it too much so long as you get your appetite back when you are feeling better. Get well soon! 🙂
Oh, almost forgot – my google reader has been doing that too. I thought it was just me losing what was left of my marbles. LOL.
Losing one’s appetite normally means your body is starting to adjust it’s metabolism. It could be something temporary, which has happened to me before, but sometimes, it’s a permanent change.
Mrs. Smith – Not eating much before the run was a very bad idea! I’m never doing that again. I forgot all about oj. And we even have some at home. Yummy!
tori – I think we DID switch appetites! Are you happy to be feeling hungrier now? Or do you find it annoying?
SoMi’s Nilsa – Reader is STILL being weird. What is the dealio? Now it is overlapping blogs. Weird.
Mica – I am glad I am not the only one too. I thought I was going crazy. My appetite starting coming back today. Yay!!!
Lindsay – I was hoping that running would make me feel hungry. Instead, it made me feel like I am was going to barf. I am running the half in Kenosha. I should change that ticker title…
Scale Warfare – I don’t recommend it, but getting sick DID get the scale moving for me. It put me in first place this week for my office’s Biggest Loser Challenge.
Hilly – Usually, when I am sick, I crave soft things, like pasta dishes, cinnamon rolls… Are you doing any exercise right now? 🙂
sizzle – LOL! I was trying to do that – eat the right things, what little I did eat. Now I am slowly getting back to normal.
Christina – I am so sick of soup from winter, that I barely even touched it when I was having my worst of the sickness. That really says a lot!
diane – I always get the same Thai dish – Pad Siew. I think it would make me feel better. It always leaves a funny taste in my mouth though!
Jenn – Why haven’t they fixed it yet? I wonder what is causing it.
Tony – I know! I have a 9-miler on Sunday, and I am already worried that I won’t have enough “fuel” for then… 🙁
aron – It’s finally coming back slooooooowly…
CourtneyInControl – I wish I could be bity and tiny. But I think those words will never describe me. Ha ha ha.
Alice – I guess I will have to use that as a factor now too! This must be SERIOUS!!!
Runeatrepeat – Hee hee. Thanks 😀
kaylen – I didn’t mind it for one or two days, but once it starting going on about 5, I was worried! It’s not as much fun as it sounds 😉
JavaQueen – Thanks. I’ve reduced it down to a bad cold now! Hurrah!
kapgar – That’s good, right?! I have noticed I have less unplanned snacks since I stopped the sugar. I guess that was all I was craving.
Amanda – Thanks 🙂
teeni – Oh my gosh! You are so insightful, and RIGHT! It has been GREAT not to have to think about food… until I wanted to start exercising again. Too bad I have to go back to normal. Maybe I can learn something from this…
martymankins – I hope it’s not permanent. Because I want to enjoy food again. And get my taste buds back!
