What would you do for fun if you had to give up tv, movies, electronic games and the internet?
I think giving up those things would take some getting used to. But maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad goal for 2009?
I know I would like to:
- Spend more time with family and friends, preferably in person, or on the phone/email/letters
- Start playing the violin again
- Play board games/learn to play cards
- Read more books
- Spend more time running or pick up a new sport
Learn to play the cello.
Join a choir/singing group.
Take dance classes.
Draw again.
Be more crafty.
i didn’t make any resolutions, but i am starting up 2 classes i’ve never taken within the next week: potterly, like on a pottery wheel a la Ghost, and aerobic pole dancing. i’m confident these will enrich my life in very different ways π
I’d read more, spend more time with family and friends and try to get some traveling in there too.
sizzle – The cello is a great choice! Have you always wanted to learn to play it?
Alice – Both of those classes sound like fun! I’ve thought about trying a pole dancing class. It’s supposed to be a really good workout!
cheryl – Ooo, I wish I could travel more! I would give up those things indefinitely!
I would:
— continue the candle making (less the injuries!)
— get involved with another singles group in BC
— write more snail mail letters to my grandma and the child I sponsor through CFCA
— travel more, even if just for a weekend
— exercise
Actually I plan to do all of these anyway!! π
Oh, that’s a good list. Iwonder what I’d do. Hmm.
Work out more.
Visit more people in person.
Get more accomplished.
So I probably actually should work on this. π Great post idea.
Play more music: guitar, resume teaching myself piano. And coincidentally, learn to play cello is already on a list of mine.
Go bowling
More time at the driving range, shooting hoops, mini golf
Travel
Visit and talk to long distance buds more
Perhaps be more social though I imagine it wouldn’t come naturally
Draw, sculpt, paint, build stuff
Ha, you know… I think I’d get a second job so I could save up to travel more. I already read unceasingly, I paint, I sculpt, I write, I exercise, I hang with my family… what I don’t do is travel like I want to.
Or I’d end up cleaning and doing yard work…. two things worth skiving out on. π
Happy Friday everyone! Mine are up!

Wow, how did I never know that you used to play the violin?? H. plays as well! π
The internet is the only one that really eats my time up…I’d actually like to watch MORE movies! My tv goes for weeks without ever being turned on.
The last two days I have read a lot, in part because I’ve not been feeling well. It’s been wonderful. I could spend an entire vacation just reading books.
Oh, and maybe we should make plans for a boardgame night or two…I know I’ve talked about it but never really did anything to make it happen!
I would read which I do anyway but I would do it a lot more. I’d play card games and board games with the kids too. I’d also probably go to bed earlier and get up with the sun and spend more time outdoors. I’d also knit and crochet. I’d play the guitar again.
Oh, I’d probably spend much more time with family and friends. I am cutting back this year for sure. Happy New Year!!!
I’d have to resubscribe to newspapers.
Take more photos
Run more train more
And maybe read a touch more…
I might actually commit to relearning an instrument or maybe I’ll take up poker professionally.
Bethany – I hope 2009 is injury free for you! π
teeni – I like your list. Especially the “get more accomplished.” That could cover a lot for me!
claire – I would love to learn to play the piano. It is one of my life goals. I wonder if this will be the year I start!
Kyra – Sometimes I think the extra cash from a second job would be nice too! But then I would have NO free time.
Allison – I’ll check yours out!
diane – We never watch tv either, but do catch a lot of movies when we are using the treadmill! I hope you are feeling better! You shouldn’t have to be sick to get time to read! I would love to schedule a board game night. As long as it’s not trivial pursuit!
joanharvest – I would love to go to bed earlier. I’ve gotten a bit better about turning my computer off at night, but I’m still tired every day.
JavaQueen – I hope we both meet that goal. Steven and I are trying to plan trips now, at least hypothetically, so we stay committed! Happy New Year!
Nat – I was thinking that too – I could still read the paper to get my gossip! Or magazines! Photos are a good idea too! I would love to spend more time and become a better photographer!
kapgar – One of those sounds more profitable than the other π
I would do a lot of the same things I do now…knit, read, make cheese, play games with my kids. I am sort of a boring/easily amused person.
tori – I don’t think that’s boring – just different! Most people are so obsessed with the things I mentioned – I am happy to hear about someone who ISN’T!
That’s easy… read more books. I’ve got a giant stack that begs to be completed.
martymankins – Have you started any yet?! π
