Have you noticed the hot colors for fall (for women) seem to be plum and mustard?
Jacket and pea coat from New York & Company… one of my favorite places.
I am totally digging the plum. I have bought a few tops that I love in this color:
I am even embracing plum nail polish! Or trying to, anyway.
But the mustard? I am afraid to even try it on! I actually think it looks nice, on the model, but what if I try it on, fall in love with it, buy it, and only wear it this season? I doubt that color will last very long. I feel more assured by the plum.
Are you trying these colors this season?
I look bad in both with my red hair. I’m sticking with my black and white preferences. π
I’ll bet you look gorgeous in your plum shirts. And, the opi Plum polish, THE prettiest they’ve put out, I LOVE it.
As far as what I’m doing for fall? Whichever t-shirt and jeans I pull out of the clean laundry stack. It’s been so long since I’ve dressed nice. This post made me realize that I should go get myself something presentable for work. I usually wear t-shirts and jeans since I work nights. We do have a dress code, but I don’t pay them any attention because nobody see’s me. They’ve never said anything either.
I wish I could wear brighter colors: yellows and oranges but they make me look like I have a skin disease. The brightest color I can wear is Red and that is only certain shades (to orange, ick). For fall, I wear lots of browns, blacks, and whites (wait I wear those all year LOL)
I could do the plum, and actually bought a shirt that has horizontal plum and a few other colors on it…but mustard? NO way.
I don’t really have any new fall clothes. No money to get them, so it’s my normal blues and greens mostly π
I’m SO HAPPY about this plum thing. Screw the mustard, though.
Not everyone should wear yellow. Like me! But I do love plum.
i am soooo down with the plum. mustard, however, is NOT A GOOD LOOK for me. oy. it’s a great color for my mom though, so.. lucky her, i guess?
I’m a firm believer in that you should wear only the colors you like that you feel good wearing! The designers can put out whatever they want, you choose what you like and you choose HOW you will wear it. With a color as bold as the mustard, if you aren’t sure, then I’d limit it to accessories so you don’t have to worry about it. A mustard knit scarf would be fabulous! Oh, and I like New York and Co. too! They have some really nice things there!
Oh, and I was very glad that this post was NOT about food. LOL
I love purple, plum…always have!
Now that I think about it, I really did see a lot of those colors throughout Target when I went to buy my Domokun today at lunch.
i would look so bad in mustard. i think it would make my skin look yellow or ashen! but the plum i love!
Plum looks really good on me when I dye my hair more brown than red but mustard? Bwahahahaha! I look like a big condiment jar!
I think you could pull off the mustard with your coloring, but would probably want to try it on in a store to be certain. π
I have a friend with dark hair, dark eyes and fair olive skin who looks soooo good in pumpkin and it makes me crazy-jealous.
I can definitely pull off the plum, but no shade of yellow or orange (not even peach!)has ever looked good on me!
I have to agree, I think the mustard color would look great on you. Your coloring is perfect for that color. And several years ago a mustard color was in style. I had a sweater that I loved in that color. I would start with something small or a shirt with that color and others in it and then accent with the mustard color. A belt, scarf
even purse or shoes. Let the “fashion architect” come out. π
My friend Nai and I are loving these trends, because I suit plum….and she suits mustard. Awesome.

Kyra β I cannot believe that! Even the plum? Maybe a little subdued version of it? π
Javaqueen14 β Thank you π And hey, if I could get away with jeans and a t-shirt at work, I would do it, except when meeting clients. Itβs just so much more comfortable! Although, dressing nice does make me feel more professional. I guess itβs a tough call.
Felicia β Have you ever tried green? I bet you would look great in that! Although, it is not really a bright color π
Bethany β Blues and greens are always in style π
Jess β I thought of YOU when I wrote this!
Sizzle β Yeah, it seems like only darker skinned women can pull it off! And it looks beautiful on them!
Alice β Yeah. Lucky her! Iβm not jealousβ¦ much π
Teeni β I usually feel the same way β that the fashion pushed on us by designers is ridiculous. And, it usually use. I am just trying to find the plum color in more βnormalβ pieces! That mustard-colored scarf sounds nice thoughβ¦
Amy β I never realized how beautiful it is until now!
kapgar β Good eye! The second shirt happens to be from Target π
marissa β And it would probably looks especially bad during the winter (on most people) when the skin is at its lightest!
Hilly β LOL! I suppose thatβs one way of putting it π
diane β Thanks π I am surprised you do yellows and oranges
Denise β Fashion architect! Hee hee hee! So, will you be wearing your sweater then?
Claire β Something for everyone! π
I am LOVE, LOVE, LOVING the plum for Fall! I think it compliments most skin tones. Mustard though, major no-no for me. I hate the color and it looks dreadful against my pale complexion. I’m gonna have to be on the lookout for plum nailpolish! Another color I’m loving right now is the rich, chocolate brown I’ve been seeing a lot of.
Emma – Ooo! Chocolate brown! Now I am going to be on the lookout for that…
