Why do you blog, or, why do you read blogs?
Beth just wrote a “Why I Blog” post (I love it when people write on this topic!). It reminded me of a post I wrote about the same topic a long time ago, but with a somewhat different answer.
Like Beth, I do blog to meet new people. That is one of the biggest perks! I love “knowing” people from all over the country, and even getting to meet some of them.
But that is not solely why I blog. It started as a way to keep in touch with friends and family, but now it’s more than that, at least for me.
Now it’s a place for my voice. It’s a place for me to say whatever the hell I want and not have to think twice about it OR worry about being interrupted. I waste so much time in the real world trying not to offend people OR letting them do all the talking, I feel like I should have one place where I can just be myself.
I just have to keep remembering that.
I blog as a natural outlet in addition to my journaling. I like putting some of my thoughts out there. I do it as a history buff to take a look back and be able to go really that was what I thought (or oh hell yeah that is what I thought). I love the perks that have happened through blogging…meeting new people, making new friends, and finding that there are a whole lot of people that have great minds and don’t mind sharing them 🙂
I love reading blogs because I find other people fascinating. I have always found that individual stories through out history have always been more fascinating than massive event history. It is always the diaries, the letters, the oral histories that make everything real and meaningful. Reading blogs gives you insight and perspective on the world that you would never have if you stayed in your own head all the time 🙂 Plus I think it makes the world a better place to read, listen, or even just consider a different perspective than your own (even if it is just a difference in what someone did today different than you)! Also it is a great way to keep in touch with people that you don’t get to talk to or see on a regular basis 🙂
‘Cause I can’t shut up in real life either. 😉
I blog because it keeps me sane. I read because I like it.
And Kyra’s got a pretty good reason, too.
I blog as an outlet. All of these emotions get caught up in my gut all of the time and instead of eat, drink, smoke or drug about them, I just write as fast as my little fingers can go.
As far as reading blogs, I feel that it brings me close to people of all walks of life and that fascinates me. Plus now, I feel like I am just keeping up with friends the easy way.
I blog for several reasons, but the main reason is to improve my writing skills to get back into writing. My goal, which I almost accomplished in 1995 is to leave the IT industry and become a writer full time. Blogging was a way for me to improve my writing skills to work towards feeling better about the novels, short stories, short films, scripts and other writing I do.
And of course, I like to share what’s going on in my life (at least most of it). Plus, there’s a big creative side to all of it. I love to find ways to unleash my creative side.
Why do I read blogs? I enjoy reading other people’s writing and love to read about other’s lives. Plus I like to see how creative other people can be.
Blogging was just a way to journal my thoughts and feelings. Talk about my life. I thought it would be great to be able to look back on it all. I was shocked when I started forming friendships with my readers. Blogging has been so much more than I could have ever imagined. I hope to do it for a long time to come! Have an awesome weekend!
I blog for the same reasons as everyone else, but I’ve been thinking about doing something else. I don’t know. It’s weird.
I’d like to have a different set of rules, maybe try blogging a different way. I don’t know.
I’ll tell you why I blog but only if you’re done talking 😉
corny as it is I got hooked on myspace and still have friends there, can you believe that I ran into one this weekend. anyway, like you I found it great to have a place where I could use my voice as I see fit. originally I didn’t have a picture of myself nor did I tell people that I know about it.
I think that it’s great though to meet people from all over but more so to meet other really cool people that you don’t necessarily come across in every day life. THAT is probably the biggest perk.
I started my blog when I was recovering from surgery and completely bored. I continued it because of the amazing people I met and have continued to meet since then. (you included!)
I blog because the little voice in my head tells me to. Actually, I blog to give some insight into my weird world and I read blogs because they are so interesting. It helps me realize there’s a much bigger world out there.
i never anticipated all the wonderful people i’d meet through blogging, but now that’s one of my most favorite aspects of it. i feel connected to people who read my blog, and whose blogs i read, and i want to keep those friendships growing! they mean a lot to me. my blog friends have really been there for me through many hardships (and joys!) because i write about it all. it’s been a great support network for me.
Felicia – I love that I learn a lot from reading other blogs – I learn about current events, pop culture, and even history. I think I learn more about current events from bloggers than I do from reading the craptastic newspaper here 😉
Kyra – LOL!
kapgar – I am not sure if it keeps me sane or makes me crazy. Sometimes both?
Hilly – I wish that I could use blogging as more of an outlet, and just let it all out. Because even though I said I don’t have to think twice about it, some things don’t even cross my mind to put here, even though people may want to read it/or relate.
martymankins – I think you have mentioned wanting to be a writer before, but I’ve forgotten. What sort of writing do you want to do?
javaqueen14 – I LOVE being able to go back a few years and re-read what was going on in my life at that point. In since it is on the internet… I can’t really get rid of it, like a hard journal!
ajooja – Getting a little sick of it? A little worn out? I sure am.
de – I think meeting all the different people really expands your horizons. It gives you opportunities… opens your mind…
tori – Thanks 🙂 I didn’t know you started it then! I am happy you stuck with it!
Kevin – I love that – seeing the bigger picture. Sometimes someone will write something that totally puts me in my place, but wasn’t even meant for me. We all relate in a weird way.
marissa – I love the feeling of connection in the blogging community too 🙂
Plz to updayte?
(you don’t have to reply to this!)
Where have you been? You have to update your website so I know what is going in your life!
Alright Christina and Steven – I finally wrote something! Info you all knew… but oh well 😉
