Happy Halloween! In case you’re like me and are well aware today is Halloween, but are generally confused about what month it is, I’d like to remind you tomorrow is November 1 and DST ends on Sunday. I know. Nutso. Time flies when you’re having fun.
It’s been two weeks and Penny is still obsessed with the cat house. Even though it’s been hot some days (yesterday it was in the low 80s), she’s still hanging out in there, even going up to the mezzanine level! I’m glad she’s getting used to it, with winter on the way (and that she’s moving farther into it, so Snow Jr can come in as well). Good job Pennifer.
I really wanted to do book club at the gym last month but it was a Colleen Hoover book, so it was a hard pass. I told myself I’d do the next one, no matter the book, and it’s a kind of self help book that I started yesterday and UGH, it’s just NOT for me. So much repetitive fluff! But folks on GoodReads said there is useful information at the end so I will stick it out.
Have I mentioned I host a lunch break movie club at work? It’s like a book club, only we watch a movie on our own, then discuss it. It started out in my branch, but now it includes folks from all over the company. Yesterday we had our 16th meeting and chatted about The Shining. Here are the movies we’ve reviewed and next month’s:
I’m in a phase right now where most (social, but a little of work too) digital communication feels overwhelming. And by phase I mean I have felt this way for most of the year and don’t see it changing. It’s me, not the people contacting me.
I always forget nautical miles (which is how airplane mileage is measured) are 1.151x road miles. So when we have a headwind and it shows 90 kn, it’s 103.6 road mph.
We’re not anywhere close to buying a plane but I have a tail number in mind! And it’s available! The last time it was used was Nov 2007 and tracking shows it “landing” on an island somewhere well off the coast of Portugal. Steven doesn’t really care for it, but this is just an imagination game, so it’s all good.
Oh, I’d love to hear more about tail numbers. Are they all publicly listed? I didn’t realize people can pick their own?!

If you know a tail number, it’s really easy to look up who it’s registered to at the FAA and to see where it’s last flown (all you have to do is google it, generally). I am not sure if there is a list of all tail numbers anywhere public. And you can pick your own! Like 800BS hahhahhaahahahahah get it?
I will!!!!

I listen to a book podcast and people constantly complain about books clubs, so they keep trying to turn book clubs into movie clubs. I, as a person who does not watch movies at all, was absolutely gobsmacked by this suggestion. Who does a movie club? But now I know. It’s you.

Yep! It’s been a lot of fun. We (me and Steven) love watching movies and tend to prefer them over TV. Was this podcast suggesting watching movie versions of books?
People write in and complain about their book clubs a lot – that they pick bad books, that people don’t like to do the homework, that the discussions are bad, etc. – and they always try to say that if the point of book club is social (rather than actually discovering new books), it could always be ANYTHING – a sewing club, a movie, etc. I find this response super frustrating. I imagine someone from my IRL book club suggesting we just turn into a movie club and I DO NOT LIKE IT. They ARE different things! Anyway, I otherwise love this podcast, so I forgive the hosts their weirdness about this topic.

I am a firm believer that unless you’ve specifically joined a self help book club, self help should be off the table when choosing a book for the group! I feel like self help is such a personal type of book that you have to be actively seeking/wanting to read to enjoy or get anything out of. UGH
Also – lmk the tail number. I promise I won’t take it… or will I………………..

I am with you there! Also, don’t assume just because I go to a gym that I want to improve myself. LOL. So far this book is very hustle culture, and the only hustling I want to do is to get to bed.
Ha! It turns out it won’t be released for use until 2026.
I completely understand feeling overwhelmed by digital communication—sometimes it just piles up and becomes too much to manage. Also, I had no idea about the difference between nautical miles and road miles; that’s such an interesting tidbit! The idea of picking out a tail number for a future plane is so fun, even if it’s just for the imagination game. Dreaming about adventures like that is always exciting!

YES!!!! Thank you for getting me!!!!
Glad you found it interesting! I’ve learned SO MUCH and I am only a passenger. It’s nuts.
I love the idea of a movie club because I feel like it would push me to ACTUALLY watch movies. There are so many movies I’d like to watch but just don’t because I don’t feel the same pull toward movies as I do books. Speaking of, did you listen to Knox and Jamie’s episode on The Shining? I’ve never watched that movie (and never will because I’m a big baby!), but it was a fun episode to listen to.
DON’T REMIND ME ABOUT THIS STUPID TIME CHANGE. Ughhhhh. I hate it. I’m looking forward to lighter mornings but it getting dark so early hurts my soul.

I bet it would! I think you would enjoy it – and if you hate the movie, it’s just a couple hours, not as many as a book.
I did! I remembered to listen to it the morning of movie club and really enjoyed it and shared some of their facts!
