RTT got a bit bloated this week, so I’m breaking it into two posts! Yesterday’s was beauty, travel, and random categories, today’s is fitness, physical health, and mental health categories.
- Therapy update! My therapist found a way for us to still meet using a different platform, and that platform said they would eat the cost if insurance does not cover it. Sounds like a f*ck around and find out sort of situation, but I met with her this week and will see how it goes.
- Speaking of medical crap, I just paid off my two ER visits from 2022. I went on a $50 a month plan, since it was interest free. Feels good to have that done!
- Weight talk trigger warning: Trying to lose weight while lifting is such a mindf*ck – Am I gaining muscle? (probably) Do my clothes feel looser? (yes) Is the scale staying the same and sometimes going up? (yes) Am I eating less to lose weight? (nah) Do I feel energetic and strong? (yes). This is the first time I’ve ever lifted this much so consistently, and I need to let go of using the scale the way I was when I was only doing cardio. Work in progress! (Honestly, this could be a whole post, especially how it relates to my decision whether to run the Denver Marathon.)
- I don’t have a related photo for this post, so check out this cute new Senita bra I wore to class this week!
- The only time I remember to wear my reading glasses is when I am reading my Kindle. Otherwise, I get through a whole work day, see them sitting on my desk and think “oh yeah, those might have helped.” Ha.
Oh god- ditch that scale! You’ll only make yourself crazy. You said you feel “energetic and strong” and I would call that a win right there! And that bra is VERY cute. I feel like I need to up my gym wardrobe- everyone seems to have these cool clothes and I’m shlumping around in old running gear.
I’m guessing you don’t need reading glasses THAT badly (yet) if you keep forgetting to use them!
I might some day! I know I am not supposed to say this, but it’s been a very useful tool when I was just doing cardio. It doesn’t make me crazy like it does some people.
Thank you! I do love having cute stuff to wear, especially if I am going to take my shirt off.
I don’t! Thankfully!
Yay for your therapist and boo to our health care system.
Clothes feeling loser? Keep doing what you’re doing and what Jenny said!
Right? and right. Thanks for making it harder to talk to someone about mental health, folks! But my therapist really persevered for me, and I appreciate it!
Thank you! I am thinking about using the scale less!
That is the cutest sports bra!
Feeling energetic and strong sounds AMAZING. Go, you!
Thank you so much! On both comments!
I am SO GLAD you’re able to continue working with your therapist! That is excellent news!
Right? I was NOT in the mood to find someone new and start over! UGH!
That sports bra is fabulous!
I try not to look at the scale. Do I feel strong? Do my clothes fit? Eh, I’m okay! Because the scale is too much for me!
Thank you!
You are in the majority in that! I am thinking about using mine less! Cause I know I feel good and my clothes do fit!
To me it sounds like you are doing all the right things, way to go Kim!!! Denver…maybe occasionally run with a mask on to (kinda) simulate the altitude/oxygen; but that sounds so exciting!
Thank you! I was thinking about this yesterday when I ran with my gaiter on – I almost always cover my face in the winter and cooler months! I wonder if that does help?!
Well to be honest if you’re lifting more you should be eating more anyway! π Gotta pack on that muscle somehow! (at least, if that’s what you are aiming for)
I get it though, it’s a big adjustment to NOT look at the scale, or not be concerned if your weight ticks up. I switched my goals from weight loss to building muscle in the fall and it took me a while to adjust my mindset. I still track my weight each week with my nutrition coach but it’s only one metric that we look at and it’s not super important to me anymore. But it takes a long time to break that old mentality that most of us have of weight gain = bad. Mine fluctuates pretty regularly but my clothes fit me just how I like and I feel GOOD, which is more important. So keep on using those non-numerical guideposts, such as energy and strength π
So true! And I am! I have two, sometimes THREE breakfasts LOL.
Thank you for getting me and taking the time to leave that comment. I am where you were in the fall I think! I still want to check in now and then but maybe not every day anymore, because, like you said, it’s just one metric that really doesn’t give the whole picture.
I love reading that you feel good!!!!!!
Dude. LOOK at the shoulder/bicep muscle in the “behind” view of the cute sports bra! All I see is muscle, a HUGE happy smile, and cute workout wear. You look amazing. And ripped. π
So, are you running? (I wasn’t sure how to interpret your sentence?) If so, go, you. Altitude and a marathon? Whoa.
The scale… sigh. I have issues. I still have one, but I also still have issues. Sigh.
Aww thanks so much! I appreciate it.
And sorry to be confusing! Yes I am running. I do a long run and a few short runs each week.
Sorry it’s not helpful for you! Are you thinking about ditching it?
First off, sorry I have not commented on your blog posts in many months. Not that I have ignoring you, just way too much I have had to deal with the last many months.
I an on a payment plan for my hernia surgery I had last November. Mine is interest free for 24 months at $129 a month. And I actually blogged about it. http://www.banalleakage.com/2023/11/12/umbilical-hernia-surgery/
No worries!!!
I am glad you could use an interest fee plan to your benefit too!
