Ha, I said this back in May and it’s still true – when I’m not painting after dinner, I’m snacking or thinking I need second portions (while scrolling my phone and not paying attention to whatever we have on the TV).
It’s gotta stop.
Even though I don’t feel the urge to paint, I need to do something with my hands after dinner that does not involve eating or my phone.
So I got the paint out last night.
These aren’t my best rocks, but at least I painted! I hadn’t since I did with William on October 15th. And before that I hadn’t since September 17th.
Like I said, I just don’t feel the urge or desire to paint as much anymore. That’s probably a good thing – I was obsessive about it for a couple years and felt like I needed to paint most days and definitely have something new to post on my rock Instagram account each day.
It feels good to be broken away from that way of thinking.
And at the same time it felt good to paint again. Ha.
Have you been interested in knitting at all still? That would occupy your hands, but not require as much thought/focus (perhaps? Idk maybe same amount of focus).
I have thought of that, and haven’t been interested at all. The idea of figuring out yarn and learning a pattern does not appeal to me. Not to say it might not in the future! It would totally serve the same purpose.
Oh, this is when I read or go for a walk with the dog. Anything to distract me from thinking about going to the kitchen!
I would love to just call it a night and go read! Steven and I need a different hobby other than watching movies after dinner.
I feel you, I need a better “thing” to do while watching TV besides being on my phone. Someone in the blogging world has a coloring book that they do at night, and even though I don’t think that’s my thing maybe I’d like to try it.
I’ve started deep cleaning the house in small sections at night – started as in I did one section a week ago and a bigger chunk last night – but that’s not really a hobby is it?
I saw that – Stephany, right? So many people have sent me coloring books. If you want some let me know and I will send the duplicates your way!
Well, I guess it’s not a hobby more than it’s a chore unless you enjoy it? I bet it’s really satisfying!
These are so cute! And what a good way to keep your hands busy and off your phone. I usually write to distract myself, but that doesn’t always work.
Thank you! And that is a great idea! I can bring my computer in and write bloggy stuff. Although it’s hard for me to tune out the TV to do that!
I am not helpful in this regard, as I just go to bed and read until my eyes close (and then, 5 nights out of 10, roughly, I wake up disoriented with the light and my glasses still on… sigh…). I’m glad you are finding other things to occupy your hands, though!
That is what I would like to do! I would be in bed at 7:00 each night!
I’m glad you’re painting when you feel the call to do it! It’s good to heal from the obsessive parts of our lives, isn’t it?! I was always so amazed at the amount of rocks you would paint in a week!
I love coloring while I’m watching TV. I would suggest puzzling but I don’t know how the cats would do. That’s the reason I can’t puzzle, ugh.
Thank you! And yes! It feels so good. I feel like I understand what balance means for me so much better now.
We can actually puzzle with them, surprisingly!
