Have you ever purposefully bought overripe (maybe even bruised) bananas?
I typically just wait for them to get that way on their own at home, but I can’t keep up – we’re eating too many as snacks! And I freeze the overripe ones for my morning protein shake, so I’ve purposefully bought these dinged up ones a few times in the past week (I bet you can buy frozen pre-sliced bananas but I like the taste of the fresh ones that I freeze myself).
I never thought I’d be someone who was satisfied with a protein shake for (second) breakfast, but somehow, I am. Probably because I had a first breakfast before I worked out, then the protein shake after. And it just tastes so good – probably because the vanilla almond milk I use is full of sugar, then I add vanilla protein powder (<–affiliate link), and sweet bananas. It looks disgusting but tastes like a shake.
Yum.
Not to mention, it’s so easy to prep the night before then drink right when I get back from my workout.
I never thought I’d be someone who eats mostly the same things each day, but here I am. I’m hoping this helps keep my INR therapeutic. I’ll write a bit more about my diet in my 2023 Goals Check-in #9 on Sunday. Ha, you’ve been warned!
Aside from my morning coffee, I have a hard time eating the same things day after day. Will however could eat the exact same things every day for the rest of his life with no complaints. Sigh. The shake looks and sounds yummy!
Ha! I thought I was more like you besides my lunch salad. I guess I was wrong!
Does no complaints = complaints if it’s not the same thing each day? I hope not!
Thanks!
Haha no, Will is a man of very few complaints. So he’s happy regardless as long as he’s fed. 🙂
Phew! That is what I thought but I wanted to check LOL.
Why yes I have purposely bought overripe bananas. I’ve also put “not overripe” bananas into “banana quarantine” (a dedicated place on the counter separate from our “snacking bananas”). And also yes, I stockpile overripe bananas in the freezer so that I can make banana bread at a moment’s notice. Look, my life works better if I have overripe bananas on demand.
I make a banana and protein powder smoothie every once in a while. It’s just OK for me, it’s not something that I would ever want to have every day.
I’m looking forward to Sunday’s post! I’ll be snooping for ideas.
Oh nice! It sounds like you are taking down a lot of bananas at your house! Do you use them for anything other than banana bread and the occasional smoothie?
Thanks! I am pleased I’ve found a “meal plan” that is working for me for a few weeks now!
I have a confession to make. My husband is allergic to bananas and I think they taste like cardboard, so we never have them in our house. I vaguely remember bananas being something like eleven cents a pound when I was a cashier in the early 2000s and was recently *shocked* to see the prices were like almost a dollar a pound. Ain’t no banana worth that to me!
Oh wow! I have never heard of someone being allergic to bananas! That’s a very good reason not to have them around. They still seem cheap to me whenever I buy them – like under a dollar for a few. I guess they don’t weight much LOL.
I almost never buy bananas. I am not a fan of eating them raw and I always forget to “make” something with them…. and I don’t do smoothies/shakes consistently enough. But maybe i should give this another try!
Only if you need another fruit in your life, LOL!
