Ha, I think this collage makes it very clear what kind of book I’ve been into lately.

[41] Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
Fiction / Romance / Contemporary, follow-up to When in Rome, read on Kindle

Synopsis: Annie isn’t who her siblings and entire town think she is. Sure, she has some traditional dreams like getting married and having a family, but she’s not “sweet” “angelic” Annie. And she’s sick of everyone seeing her that way. The only person who sees her for who she truly is is her future sister-in-law Amelia’s bodyguard, Will. But Will’s past has left him jaded about relationships and he only wants to be her friend. After Annie has a disastrous date, Amelia comes up with the brilliant idea for Will to give Annie dating lessons. He agrees to it, and they both try not to fall for each other.

Review: Okay, for all I said about Annie not wanting to be known as a sweetie, this book is just so sincere, and sweet. I love the small town shenanigans, Annie’s relationship with her family, and Will’s openness and communication. This book left me with a smile on my face! I didn’t love it as much as When in Rome but I still really enjoyed it!

[42]  Just My Type by Falon Ballard
Fiction / Romance / Romantic Comedy, saw on Stephany’s blog, read on Kindle

Synopsis: Lana is addicted to being in romantic relationships. She started with Seth in high school and when they broke up she went from one long-term relationship to another. She’s horrified when the latest one ends in a breakup, when she was expecting a proposal. She’s a relationship columnist, and her boss suggests she writes about being single and finding herself – but with a twist – Lana’s ex, Seth, who just started at her office, is going to write a competing column about “finding the one.” Lana is appalled that Seth has moved to her town and that they’ll have to work together, but she can’t hold her despise for him for very long.

Review: I love enemies-to-lovers but apparently not previous lovers (see: Happy Place). For some reason the getting back together trope doesn’t do it for me! I was not invested in Lana and Seth, and the premise was ridiculous (which is addressed in the book). I did love all the LA mentions since I’ve been there twice in the calendar year. But overall, not for me.

[43] The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
Fiction / Women, saw in “Available Now” on Libby, audiobook

Synopsis: Hannah’s in a bad spot – her mom just died, her boyfriend broke up with her, and her boss has her grounded and won’t let her travel. Hannah is a bodyguard and thrives on traveling to new locations to protect high-level business people. When a new assignment comes in and Hannah is assigned as principal, she can’t wait to hear where she’ll be going next. Then it hits – it’s a job in her town, for a famous movie star, Jack Stapleton. Hannah is annoyed she isn’t traveling, but admittedly a bit excited about protecting Jack. When she has to pretend to be his girlfriend, they become close, and she’s confused about whether he is acting or actually has feelings for her.

Review: What a cheesy ridiculous premise, right? But this was right up my alley. I didn’t absolutely love it, but it was a lot of fun to listen to, and the story kept up a good pace.
