For years my dad’s been telling me whenever he has to set an alarm he sleeps horribly and wakes up a ton. Which sucks. You’re likely setting an alarm because you have to get up earlier than normal, so to have poor quality sleep on top of that just sucks.
I’ve never had this happen to me until recently, when I started taking the 5:45 am strength class.
Prior to these classes, I woke up naturally most days of the week, and used a 5:00 am alarm for my commute day (which I never hear, but thankfully, Khali does). I don’t think the work alarm stresses me out, because I’m pretty whatever about getting up and going (if I miss it I can take a later train or switch my in office day).
But I’m actually excited about and looking forward to the strength class, so I’m nervous I’ll miss the alarm and waking up every hour to check my watch. UGH. It’s so annoying!
I wonder if it’ll go away after a while, or if I’ll always have interrupted sleep the night before a class.
That used to happen to me when I took your 5am strength class! I don’t think that feeling ever went away, but in part I think it’s because it was only one day a week. Maybe having an earlier alarm more regularly will be easier for you to adjust to?
The funny thing is, I usually wake up at 5:00 anyway, and don’t want to wake up earlier… so I almost consider not setting an alarm then worry I would not wake up, which feeds into the anxiety. I just don’t want a regular alarm, ick. LOL.
I definitely feel this when it’s super important that I get up on time. Most days it really doesn’t matter all that much, but I definitely have alarm anxiety, too. You’re not alone!
Thanks for telling me it’s not just me! I feel better know I’m not alone!
I have terrible alarm anxiety. Like you, it’s not so much for work because my schedule is flexible, but just about anything else, setting an alarm pretty much guarantees a terrible night of sleep.
I hate that you do too but I feel better knowing it’s not just me!
I know that feeling when you have to get up early for a workout that you’re looking forward to! When I was running, I’d go for weeks where I would always wake up before the alarm because I was looking forward to the workouts so much.
Yes!!!!! Such a good feeling 🙂
I can relate to alarm anxiety, but cannot relate to being excited about working out, ha. I wish I was at that level! But whenever I know I have to be up early some important reason, I spend so much time worrying that the alarm won’t go off!
LOL!!!!! How have your workouts been?!
I feel so much better knowing many are like this, but at the same time, I wish we all weren’t!
Do you not set an alarm usually? I always set an alarm, but most days wake up shortly before it goes off (so my internal alarm is usually working)… the only time I get anxiety over the alarm (and subsequently usually don’t sleep well) is when I travel.
I don’t! Just once a week when I go downtown. I tend to wake up around 5:00 each day naturally in the summer.
I have an alarm set every day but I honestly don’t know why I bother – I am up 3-4 times a night, so… yeah. But when I travel? And change time zones? Then I’m up literally every hour. So I feel you. I hope that your enjoyment of the class helps you wake up WITHOUT an alarm, so you can get some sleep!
Ugh, sorry it’s so bad for you too! I hope I get used to the class soon. I am still waking up more than I want to.
