Tell me you love watermelon, without telling me you love watermelon…
Seriously, I think the two of us have taken down 12-15 of them so far this season! Yum!
But this post is actually not about watermelon. It’s me popping in to say WHY DOES PREPARING FOR A TRIP MAKE ME SO ANXIOUS UNTIL I AM ON MY WAY.
There’s just something about packing and getting the house ready to go that makes me feel all on edge. I’m not nervous about travel or logistics or the trip itself… I just have some major preparation anxiety.
I have my lists. I rarely forget anything. It just feels so chaotic until I get in the car to go. (And part of it is excitement too – I just want to be on the road.)
Now that I’m writing this out, I’m making a connection – certain kinds of preparation (like preparing for a presentation, or doing research, or learning something new) in other areas of my life fill me with anxiety too. Hmmm. Definitely something to add to the list for my next therapy session.
This is totally me. I get so anxious about packing up and leaving. We go to my Mom’s almost every weekend in the summer. We are only gone for a few days and keep a bunch of stuff there, but it still freak out about it every week. Ugh.
I can see this in my son too. He gets very disregulated when anything new is coming up. He is fine once it actually starts, but can’t handle the anticipation.
Thanks for sharing this so I know it’s not just me! I wonder if your son got it from seeing you or if it’s just in him (the whole nature vs nurture I suppose). I don’t feel like there is anyway around it, you just have to go through it. Make your lists, and feel anxious until you hit the road. What do you think?
Interesting about the watermelon. Melons aren’t my favorite. They are a lot of work. I should try to be more like you and incorporate them into my summer life more, though, because they are a Sign of Summer.
They sure are a lot of work! I have a way to cut a watermelon that doesn’t take me long, but that is the ONLY melon I am cutting!
I have so much anxiety the night before a trip. I get anxious that I’ve forgotten a crucial detail in the planning or packing, sad about leaving my cats, worried that something bad is going to happen during the trip, anxious about leaving my normal routine and my apartment that is a comfort to me… ALL OF THE THINGS. It’s not fun at all.
What IS fun is watermelon! Man, I love a good, juicy watermelon!
You get it! Does that all go away when you are on the way on the trip? Or does it linger in?
Watermelon is the perfect summer treat!
Mmm, watermelon. I haven’t had nearly enough of it this year! The problem is I can’t eat a whole one myself – but I could/should splurge on slices or pre-cut watermelon, at least once!
Do you think there are people who do NOT get anxious before traveling? Because I could just copy-and-paste Stephany’s comment and it would be exactly my experience (well, except for the cats…. no cats).
I bet they exist! They are probably the people who have someone like us in their lives to do all the planning and associated worrying.
