While I was rearranging the magnets on our fridge yesterday, I saw two of me with my snister’s two boys, with my birthday dessert from 2022 and 2021. Ooo, I thought, do I have one of me with them for any other birthdays?
What does it mean that I still have most of the clothes from these photos?!
No, no I do not! But it was a fun exercise to look (even before when they were born, ha), and I will make sure to get one this year!
How seriously do you take you birthday dessert? For many years, I started planning what I wanted Steven to make me for my end of July birthday months in advance. Then in 2020, I started ordering cakes for myself from Pie, Pie My Darling (it’s not pictured in the 2022 photo, because we ate it before my birthday, ha).
And this year will be the same! I had picked out a strawberry pie recipe for Steven to make me (he made me one in 2020!),
but then decided to order myself a strawberry cake instead!

We’re actually going to be eating it with my family several days before my birthday, so Steven can still make me a pie if he wants…
That 2020 photo is EPIC!
I do not take my birthday dessert very seriously, haha. My mom usually just bakes a cake for me using a boxed mix! Maybe I should look into an actual bakery cake this year.
I remember laughing so hard when we took that pic!!!
If it brings you joy to do that, then yes! But box cake is delish too!
I firmly believe that everyone deserves a birthday cake on their birthday… I’ll always bake on for my husband (whatever he requests) and for myself, I usually go for marble cake. My Mom made this for me growing up and no birthday is complete without a marble cake π
Aww, I love that you have that traditional cake! We had marble cake at our wedding! Yum!
Duh. Of course you get to pick the special dessert for your birthday! Mine is never a pie or a cake – always, always peach kuchen using my grandmother’s recipe. It’s not one of San’s traditional German kuchens, but instead, is one that has a shortbread crust, brown sugar over the peaches, and is topped with a custard. It’s to die for. I have to figure out how to veganize the custard (it uses an egg…sigh…).
Anyway! I got distracted thinking of my favorite dessert (well, other than apple crisp). I hope your cake is seriously fantastic and of COURSE Steven should make you a pie. Why is this even a question? π
OMG that sounds so so freaking amazing. It could totally be veganized. Yum yum yum!
Ha!!!!!! I bet he will π He is good to me like that! (but also totally understanding I am trying to eat better too, which I really appreciate)
