Just a quick check in to say, wow, our garden is really growing and it’s so fun to watch! Nothing is truly “ready” to harvest, but we’ve tried the cilantro, basil, beet leaves, and carrot stems, and all were good!

On Wednesday we set up poles and twine to support the tomato plants.

Some people use cages, some do a stake right next to the plant itself, and some do this twine method (and I’m sure there are other methods). This is what we are trying for our first garden at this house!

We’ll need to add poles and twine for the non-bush green beans as they grow larger too.

This bed has peppers, green beans, carrots, & beets

We’ve also been:

  • pruning the tomatoes
  • weeding a bit
  • fertilizing (about every two weeks)
  • as of today, taking the pepper plants out from the basement to get used to the outdoors for a bit each day

This bed has cucumber, basil, tomatoes, and cilantro

Surprisingly (and thankfully), animals have left the garden alone. Maybe because Steven put deer repellent around the base of the beds?
