I don’t remember why I went to Amazon yesterday to look at running shoes, but I’m glad I did. I saw this:
What the what is going on with the redesign of this shoe on the left? The midsole on the 25 is so different than the 24!
It looks like a completely different shoe to me. It looks like a platform shoe I’d fall over wearing. It looks like it’s trying to be a HOKA (another shoe known to have a huge midsole). The Asics shoes I wear – Nimbus and Cumulus – are cloud names and their legacy is their “cloud-like” midsole but this LOOKS extreme.
I looked up the Cumulus and it looks like its midsole got bulkier a while ago. I’m just super out of touch with buying running shoes since I’ve been running so much less.
Maybe I’ll like it?
For now I stocked up on some of the older design since they were on sale. Shrug.
Speaking of running!
Even though I’m running intervals (meaning I walk then run for a set amount of time a bunch of times), it’s still really encouraging to see paces that start with 10 or 11! When I stopped running they mostly started with 13 or 14. (Did I already write this in a public post? I can’t recall. I know I wrote it in a training recap, but I made all of those private and can’t remember what I share there and here… oops?).
I was considering getting rid of training recaps all together because I was sick of making collages and adding links and paces, etc., and they got very little engagement (understandably – it’s boring – even to me), but making them private and simpler serves me much better. Yay! And since they are private, it’s more like a diary.
Our 5K is just over 8 weeks away and we have so much time to train and get ready for it. But, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already fantasizing about maybe running a half marathon for fun in the fall. One step at a time (literally), Kim. I really am hopeful that as I lose more weight my body will be happy with me running more miles.
I hear you! When I was running, I was working very hard and getting slower all the time, which led to me giving up on it. The only running that I do right now is a sprinting workout (30 seconds x 8 so 4 minutes total) and it is fun to see the speed on those bad boys. While I don’t see myself getting back into running seriously, I might do a one mile time trial at some point just to see where I am. Heck I might even keep an eye out for a one mile race!
I TOTALLY relate to you giving up on it because of that and am glad the sprinting makes it feel good again! That would be so cool to see you do a 1 mile race!
I am finally getting back to running (yay!) And actually love the super new super foam style shoes. They look ridiculous, but they are super light, but soft and springy. It makes me feel faster and helps lessen the impact on my back. I even got a pair of carbon plate shoes (again to lessen impact) and seeing faster paces in those shoes makes me happy, even if no one else cares at all how fast I run.
Yay! I am so glad you are back to running! And like this style of shoes – that gives me hope I will too when I try them! Are you using the Nimbuses? Which carbon plate shoes do you have?
I have the Hoka carbon x which I really like. I just won a pair of Nike Vaporflys in a raffle (!!) And tried them this morning. They are definitely faster, but I didn’t love them. They are very narrow and my stride didn’t feel natural. Plus after just one run I could see signs of wear on the soles. So I will keep them for short races (if I ever do races again) I am so glad you are back running and finding a way to make it enjoyable.
Oh cool! I did not know they are making a carbon shoe now (see: out of touch, LOL). That is awesome you won, and sucks they didn’t work for you 🙁 Are they worth even using for short races if your stride doesn’t feel natural?
Thank you!
The new models of running shoes are so crazy looking! I need new shoes, but I find the whole process so stressful. I have a pair of Brooks that I loathe right now – they are really heavy and the toebox isn’t quite wide enough for me. I have a pair of Asics cross trainers that I really love and that makes me think I should look at Asics running shoes, but that means I have to get to a running store and the nearest one isn’t close, so I just keep running in old shoes. And that’s probably way more info than you needed about my shoe search.
Why can’t someone just tell me what to do with these decisions I don’t actually care all that much about, but must be made as an adult?
LOL, not too much info at all and I GET IT! That is why I just ordered what I knew worked rather than trying something new. I don’t want to do the work to go to a store and try shoes out and research online and blah blah blah.
I do want to encourage you to get shoes that work for you though, when you are in the right headspace and have energy! Get rid of those Brooks for sure.
I bought Hokas last summer in an effort to have more cushioning on my walks. Loved them in the store but took me FOREVER to get them to feel right once I got home. And then I kept getting bloody toes and… well, long story short, I’m back in my Ghosts. Debating the Glycerins but don’t want to spend the money. LOL. I do think that it’s hilarious how the industry has moved from “run barefoot!” to “run on these pillows!” in the last few years. Remember the minimalist movement? Ah, memories…
Oh wow! That stinks you spent all that money and they never worked! Do the Glycerins have more cushion? That is what I love about these shoes but they have taken it so far, as you see.
And 100P yes I do remember that! HA!
