I am still pretty rusty with these recaps. Thanks for reading anyway!
[10] Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
Fiction / Science Fiction / Space Opera, Joe recommended to me (did not realize there were two more in the series!), read on Kindle
Synopsis: The Exodus Fleet left a failing earth hundreds of years ago. While some humans left the ships and settled on new planets, many remain in the orbiting colony of ships. An alien anthropologist visits the fleet to observe and document their culture. Note: you don’t need to read the first two books in the series to follow this one.
Review: The book felt disorienting to start with so many different stories and characters to keep track of, but once it started to click and come together, I really enjoyed reading about the variety of lifestyles/roles on the ship, and discovering how all the characters were connected (or not).
Recommend? Yes, if sci fi is your thing!
[11] Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
Fiction / Thrillers / Suspense, heard about on Stephany’s blog, read on Kindle
Synopsis: Jen is shocked to see her eighteen-year-old son stab and kill someone outside her front door. She has no idea who the man is that he killed, or why. But when she wakes up the next day, it never happened – it’s the day before. Then she wakes up the day before that. Then she wakes up farther and farther back in time, and starts to piece together what is happening.
Review: This book is so clever and really pulls you in! You guess along as to what is going on and think you have it right, then find out you kind of did… but that there were still more twists and turns. It was very enjoyable!
Recommend? Yes!
[12] One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Fiction / Women, heard it was being made into a movie and was surprised I hadn’t read it!, read on Kindle
Synopsis: Emma is out celebrating her father’s birthday with her family and her fiancé Sam when she gets a phone call from her husband. Wait. What? Her husband Jesse, who was presumed dead and lost at sea, is alive, and wants to reunite with Emma. But she’s now engaged to Sam…
Review: Emma is such a well developed character (I really enjoyed her backstory) and my heart absolutely ached for the impossible situation she is in! I really enjoyed reading this and anticipating who she was going to choose. I did do a bit of skimming at the end, but that’s more about me than the book.
Recommend? Yes (TJR is such a great author and I will read anything she writes)
WPWT was so clever. When I first heard about it my reaction was “oh that’s stupid” but I kept hearing people rave about it so I dived in and got hooked fast.
I’ve only read 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by TJR. It was years ago and I’m still thinking about the last sentence. It was such a perfect book that I’ve been afraid to read anything else by TJR – I know that doesn’t make sense but here we are.
It was! I kind of want to read it again and see if it reads different knowing what is going on, now! I am glad you liked it too!
That does make sense! I have loved almost everything I’ve read from her, so if you do dive in, I don’t think it will tarnish your love for Evelyn Hugo! (The twist in that one! OMG!)
I have read all three of these books! That almost never happens! I think Becky Chambers is a genius and The Wayfarers is absolute comfort reading for me at this point.
I did not enjoy WPWT. I am not into mom lit and the ending made me irate. Ha! I am so surprised by all the love that book gets!
Oh that’s fun! Yay! Have you read all the books in the Wayfarers series? It sounds like yes! I still need to read the fourth!
Ahh I didn’t even think about that with WPWT but I can see it!
Oh yay! You loved two books that I also loved and recommended. I think WPWT will definitely make my favorites list this year. It was such a clever thriller!
Yes! Thank you for the rec on WPWT and for introducing me to TJR back in the day!!!!! Are you watching Daisy Jones and the Six? (guessing not) I tried to start it, LOL.
OK. I need to add WPWT to my list, too. I know that some didn’t like it but SO MANY people have, and it sounds so intriguing. I’m so seriously behind on TJR – like Birchie, I haven’t read many because I’ve loved the ones I’ve read so much. Time to get over that, methinks. 😉
Let me know if you read it! It kept me so engaged! And I think there is more of TJR to love! (Although I did NOT like Carrie Soto, ha)
