Despite having very little artistic knowledge and skill when I first joined the artist community on Instagram, I never felt any sort of imposter syndrome (despite very much being an imposter at first!). The community there is amazing – welcoming, encouraging, willing to make space for everyone, and let everyone flourish and grow. I felt like I belonged right away.
That is NOT how I feel on the vegan food community on Instagram. Whoa. I’m so out of my league! And have so much catching up and learning to do! I’m definitely feeling the imposter vibes over there.
And I’m feeling major comparison vibes. I wouldn’t call it the “comparison trap,” because it’s not a negative loop, it’s just me seeing everyone else’s amazing food photos and reels and realizing I have sooooooo much room for improvement.
That’s a good thing, right? Ha.
So much beige! This is just an album of food of my phone.
(I’m over there because I took over the Fake Meats Instagram for the year! Our focus there is mostly funny and entertaining reels but I do want to dabble in food and recipes to stay on topic and that’s where I struggle because it’s not something I’ve been doing. Practice, practice, practice!)
Well, for an imposter you’re making me very hungry because the food looks delicious! Obviously I’m not a pro, but if I only used my good camera to take food pictures it would take too long so I’d never post anything. I’ve always got my phone and in some cases the pictures are better than my SLR.
Aww, thank you! And I agree that the phones actually do take fantastic photos now!!!!
