- Today is Steven’s birthday! We already finished his birthday cake… oops? Happy Birthday, Steven! (And never fear, he bought a cake for his work holiday party today that we’ll eat)
- Stephany sent me the sweetest holiday gift with one of her favorite books (that I am so excited to read), these hilarious cat pen holders (that I had my eye on but kept telling myself “no” when I went to get them ha ha!), cute earrings (that I wore to work the next day), and adorable toys for the cats (that I found spread all over the house the next day). Thank you so much!
- I did a video call on Monday night with my rock painting friend Caitlin to open the gifts we got each other and it’s just so nice to communicate over video. I need to do that more.
- I’ve never met Caitlin in person but she and her husband are coming to visit us in February! We actually have visitors in January, February, and March, which is a lot of fun. We rarely have visitors!
- Oh my gosh, if you want to see a HORRIBLE Christmas movie, watch I Believe in Santa on Netflix. It’s super cringe.
- Because Christmas is on a Sunday and I get Friday and Monday off I was thinking we could travel to see my family Friday and get two full days with them then go home on Monday (we usually just get one full day when we travel over a weekend). And I kept telling this to everyone. And now we are supposed to have a blizzard tomorrow, sigh, so we have to push our travel back anyway. I shouldn’t have blabbed about how excited I was to be there for two full days.
- I forgot to mention that in the movie The Menu, the chef says he grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. When I heard that I said to Jen “did he say Waterloo, Iowa? That’s where I’m from!” Later the chef says something about being a young boy in Bratislava so it could all be made up (in this already fiction story) but it was still so random they picked Waterloo.
- On Tuesday night my left leg felt a bit cramped and I was so worried it was my blood clots moving that I couldn’t sleep well. Then I woke up and felt fine (just tired). Sigh.
- So I took some leave yesterday and took a nap and look at this! Look how close Ned and Starbuck were! She growled a bit then went back to sleep. I think they were like that for an hour, then Starbuck woke up, growled and left, then Ned decided to slap Khali, then Ned got slapped by Khali, and left. Ha.
- I haven’t been able to update the bio in my sidebar for 7 months and it finally let me today. Yay!

Happy birthday, Steven!
Tiny Beautiful Things is a great book!
Thanks!
I am excited to read it!
Thanks for the hint about the dumb Christmas movie – I had that one to possibly watch, now I won’t. If you have Disney+, the new Santa Clause series is actually good. I was not sure at first, but ended up liking it.
Your cat slap story made me LOL.
HBD Steven! Eat more cake!!
Definitely DO NOT! Ha! We don’t but I liked the movies so maybe I would have liked it! Did you watch Spirited?
Ha! I am glad it did!
Thanks!
You can still be “from” somewhere and grow up somewhere else. I’m from New York but say that I grew up in Kentucky and Illinois. So he was from Bratislava and grew up in Waterloo. What did you think of the movie? I liked it but it was not at all what I expected.
Right – I meant I didn’t know if was making up all of it for the story of the meal. I liked it, it was what I expected!
NED! What a brave little boy, haha. I just want to snuggle him. Well, I want to snuggle ALL of your cats, honestly.
I hope you love Tiny Beautiful Things! It’s one of my favorite books. Thanks for the shout-out, friend. 🙂
Isn’t he? Please come cuddle! Ned especially loves cuddles!
So far I am! There was advice in the first story that really spoke to me! (About people who withhold from others)
