I’ve been talking about the “Big Reel” on here for a few weeks, and I published it today, so I can finally share it, yay!
I love how global the rock painting community is on Instagram, so I asked accounts from around the world to film a short clip of them saying “rock” in their language, and I compiled it into one video as a celebration of how rock painting unites us!
I’ve said it before, but I love that the rockstagram space is so positive and welcoming and that I have made real friendships with people all over the world. I absolutely love being surprised by the places I will meet new friends!
It was a lot of work to figure out who to ask, ask them, keep track of all the submittals, and compile and edit this (I probably spent 10 hours on this 49 second Reel) but totally worth it. I hope to do more collaborations like it in the future!
Wow, this is so neat. There’s stuff about IG that I hate, but finding a community of likeminded people is so easy on this platform. How wonderful!
Thank you! And yes, that is what I love about it too! It’s a great place to find your niche and people!
This is really special! Nice job!! I can’t wait to watch it.
In general, I think the social media platforms (and gaming) have epic potential for uniting people over so many things. These platforms have really changed the way we communicate globally; both good and bad, but if you do it right you can form some amazing relationships that otherwise would not have been possible. I love that this has happened for you!!
Thanks so much! I enjoyed working on it, and am proud of how it turned out!
Yes I couldn’t agree more! All of my current friends except you and the ones I’ve met here through rock painting are folks I met online through blogging or Instagram. How cool is that? And it’s even more likely to happen because you are usually already connecting over a shared interest! Thank you! I love that it’s happened for you too!
This is such a cool idea! Nice job putting it together!
Thanks so much! <3
This. Is. So. Cool.
I would NEVER have thought of this! It does show the good in social media, if you use it in the right way. Is the person with whom you have exchanged rocks (in Australia, right?) on the list? (I assumed so but wasn’t sure…)
Such a neat hobby – and really, its own little world.
Aww thanks so much! And yes, social media can be very good, if you find the right community!
My Australian friend (Emily) is not the Aussie in the Reel! I mostly asked rock painters only, and Emily does digital illustrations and embroidery.
