A few highlights from the weekend!

Friday

  • A walk on the beach.
  • The cats being cute before we left.
  • Burger King for lunch with Steven. Weird highlight, right? I just love that I can get a vegan burger at Burger King. Yum.
  • Seeing the RBG mural in Dubuque.
  • Arriving to Iowa and seeing my family! We went there for an early birthday celebration for my snister.
  • Vegan cupcakes.
  • My snister liking the birthday presents we got her.

Saturday

  • A run with Dad while he rode his bike.
  • Painting a rock for the fly-in I forgot was going to happen.
  • Going to Farmers Market and making a funny Reel with snis (at a store near Farmers Market).
  • Finding fun gifts to send friends.
  • The fly-in at Abel Island. I had completely forgotten it was this weekend! There is a landing strip at the island next to the one my family has cabins on, and they do an annual “fly-in” where over 20 planes fly in, then fly out, in a period of 3 hours. It was really fun to see so many planes fly in, and to look at them up close after they were parked!
  • Going to the beach on Christina (aka snister) and Will’s new boat! They bought a deck boat last week, and it was so fun to ride in and take to the beach!
  • Trying to make a Reel at the beach and failing over and over because the rock kept dropping in the water. Ha. Ha ha ha. Dad was trying to help me and I really appreciate that! (And the rock was perfectly fine after being dropped so much – yay for sealant!)
  • Relaxing at the beach for a long time.
  • All the amazing snacks Snis brought for the beach (and all the amazing food she prepped for the weekend).
  • Playing What Do You Meme? and laughing so hard I was crying.

Sunday

  • Eating vehicle shaped waffles for breakfast (Snis had a vehicle shaped waffle maker on her wishlist and obviously I had to get that for her!).
  • Kayaking with Christina and William on the river. There’s a calm little patch of the river right by the island ramp that was perfect for kayaking!
  • Burgers and hot dogs for lunch.
  • Stopping at a fun gift shop (that has two cats that live there!!!) on the way out of town (and hiding a rock there). I tried to be fast since we were headed out but I need to go back and take more time looking at everything – the shop is three stories!!! I just rushed through.
  • Seeing lots of horses and buggies on our drive home.
  • Seeing the cats when we got home.

Lowlights

  • Traffic on the way home. We decided to go a completely different route because of a detour on our old route, and the new route took us through Madison and Milwaukee and yucko – there was heavy Sunday traffic, with people driving really crazy!
