A few highlights from the weekend!
Friday
- A beautiful, cool walk/run, with a double rainbow at the end.
- Having breakfast sandwiches with Steven before I left for Iowa.
- My snister sharing her free Starbucks with me.
- Catching up on podcasts on my four-hour drive to Iowa.
- Yummy lunch at Christina and Will’s place – burgers! My dream vacation is where someone else chooses all my meals, cooks them, and cleans up, and my snis made that happen this weekend, and I appreciate it so much. It’s nice to have a break from some chores!
- Playing games with Christina and William, and starting a puzzle.
- Yummy tacos for dinner.
- Going to the pond after dinner and seeing another rainbow!
Saturday
- Getting a long ride in with Dad and Will. Ha, we had so many adventures on this ride!
- I’d been on part of the crushed stone trail we rode only once before, but on that one visit, I saw a cow on the side of the trail and wondered if that would happen again. It did! This time, it was a cow blocking the entire trail, toward the end of our ride. Dad and I were separated from Will (ahead of him), and we thought we could ride by the cow, but she wouldn’t let us, so we tried to walk by (she’d block the trail), and she wouldn’t let us, so we tried riding again and finally got by. It was scary – we didn’t want to spook her, get her too far from home, or get trampled. Will had worse luck – he approached the cow and the cow got low to the ground, maybe since Will is low to the ground too? He could not pass at all and had to turn around, for us to pick him up in the car (which was the plan, just not at that location). Cows can be dangerous, yo!
- We saw Dad’s doppelganger on the ride, and ended up having a long conversation with him at our turnaround point.
- We saw so many neat rock formations on the eastern side of the trail! I just wanted to stop and take all the photos!
- The weather was gloriously cool, but a bit windy in the very few open spots. I felt great on the ride, and feel ready for RAGBRAI.
- Arriving home from our ride and having sandwiches by order made from Christina. Wow, that was a good sandwich. (Okay, sandwiches.)
- Going out to a beach. I thought it would be too cool out, but it was actually perfect. Overcast and not too hot. The water is so low on the Mississippi River that there’s a new beach spot where the water is shallow for a long stretch – it’s perfect for the kids and I really enjoyed it.
- Going on a boat ride with Dad.
- Laughing with Leo and Christina at silly Instagram filters.
Sunday
- Getting a walk/run in.
- Delicious French toast! (Again, it was amazing to have Christina make all the meals – thank you snis!)
- Painting rocks with William and Leo.
- Hiding some rocks on the island.
- Going out to the beach again.
- Jamming to flashbacks on my drive home and picking up another Starbucks treat from Snis.
- Getting home and seeing Steven and the cats!
- $1 Shitterfly magnet day.
Lowlights
- My anger with construction and detours on my Friday drive. Sigh. It’s NOT a big deal and I was NOT on a timeline, but I still got so frustrated!
- Not drinking enough water and getting a headache. Duh, Kim.
What a fun weekend! I’m glad you got to enjoy some good, old-fashioned family time in Iowa. A 4-hour drive to catch up on podcasts: the dreeeeam. Also, having other people cook/clean up for me. That’s why I love cruises so much. I don’t have to try to find a restaurant: I just go down to the dining room, pick a delicious meal, and don’t have to worry about dishes (or the check!)
It was so nice to catch up on them! And so so nice to have my snis do all that work. I would definitely like that part of a cruise, or an all inclusive. I just want a break from thinking about food and cleaning up after myself!!!!
I’m just reading this! So glad you had a good time, we loved having you!! The boys love their Aunt Kim, and I love my snister!! (And Will loves his snister-in-law too lol)
I so did! I already have my weekend booked to come back the weekend before your bday FYI LOL. I will wait on YOU that weekend. LOVE YOU ALL!
