Like Random Thoughts Thursday, but on a Tuesday
- My visit with the sports medicine doctor went how I expected – which is fine with me! It’s good to have a professional confirm what I thought. They said my knee seems solid and we could do an MRI to see if there is a meniscus tear, just so we know, but the only step to try to fix that would be surgery, and I don’t want to do surgery, so I am going to pass on the MRI unless it gets worse. They advised I take two weeks off running (I will do at least that) and keep doing my other cross training and to LOSE WEIGHT. Ha. Yeah, I know.
- I think I’m fine with taking time off running, then I wake up and it’s 56°F after it being miserably hot and I miss running so much. YOU HAVE OTHER HOBBIES, KIM.
- I felt absolutely heartbroken for Shelby Houlihan when I saw her announcement about her four year racing ban on Instagram last night. She’s one of my favorite athletes and I was so excited to see her compete in the Olympics. Ugh. I somehow hope it gets overturned but the track & field trials are this weekend and it doesn’t seem like it will.
- I mentioned last week that it bothers me when people are a bit greedy with the rocks I paint and hide. I shouldn’t be, right? I’m putting them out there for anyone to take, and to take as many as they want. I should just be happy they are posting that they found them at all! But it still bugs me when I paint rocks that are nearly the same, and someone takes most of them (maybe to re-hide, who knows!) then other people are posting in the group that they are out there looking for them and can’t find them (because they missed the post where someone shared that they took most of them). So… I need to:
-
- GET. OVER. IT.
- Stop posting my hides.
- Make them exactly the freaking same. Ha, jk, that won’t work.
- Stop hiding at all.
- Spread them really far out so someone can’t collect them all on foot… I mean, I am riding my bike a lot more…
-
This is not the rock series I mentioned above – I only made one of these. But this one brings up a whole new set of complaints – people want to be told exactly where the rocks are sometime. Um, it’s like a game to find them? Also, google the clues I gave as to where it is. I know, I know, calm down Kim.
I probably have a small meniscus tear as well (no MRI confirmation but 3 doctors plus my coach agree), and I started PT but am non-compliant (don’t ask me why, but I just don’t do my home exercises). I’m going to stop PT and keep working to strengthen the muscles around it while I continue to NOT RUN – ugh, I feel your pain. Mentally. Well, physically too. Anyway, I’ve been told that if it’s a small tear they can do several options instead of surgery, including something about something something (I’ll try to remember to ask my PT when I see her on Thursday to break up with her), plus there’s plasma-rich platelet injections but that might be more for pain than healing. All that said, I hope yours heals and you feel better and can run again very soon!
On the rocks, I wouldn’t tell anyone where you hide them. Let the game really be a game! Also I like the idea of riding your bike to hide them farther down the trail. THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS. Or at least, this is why some greedy peeps ruin it for everyone.
Ugh, I am sorry you do. And I would be in the same boat – not wanting to do home exercises. Just ugh, no. Ahh yes, tell me what that something something is in case I want to look into it! And I really hope you feel better soon too <3 Maybe both of us can feel better to run in the worst heat of the summer!
I am so tempted to do that but at the same time I love the attentions I get on FB when I post them in our group! Ha! But I should do that - then the same people won't drive out there to get them. Or post them way later in the day or the next day or something. And yeah, greedy people do ruin it.
Ugh that is weird that people are taking ALL of the rocks in a single series. (My dad found some rocks a few years ago and gave one to me for Christmas in my stocking, which I thought was really cute. I thought he bought it, but now I realize, he had found it on his walk!)
I am sorry about your knee news! Though I’m glad you have some decision on how to proceed. Having “options” can be more stressful than knowing. I’m glad you have so many cross-training activities in the mean time, but ugh, that is also disappointing that the weather cooled just in time for your decision to not run.
I think so too. Ha, that is funny he did that! Did you keep it?
Thanks! I am glad I talked to him and he basically confirmed what I was thinking. All the more reason to ride my bike. Ugh, I know, and it was 54 this am! Tomorrow our highs are back in the 90s again. Ick!
Yeah, telling yourself that you have other hobbies (when all you want to do is run, but you can’t) doesn’t work LOL
I understand your frustration about people taking all of your rocks and not leaving any for others… but don’t see what you can do about it. You listed some good approaches to the problem.
It surely does not!
Yeah, it’s out of my control and something I need to get over! Today I spread them farther apart – so you’d have to walk 5 miles to find them all. If someone wants to do that, power to them!
Your knee problem is similar to my ankle problem. Like, the only fix to my ankle (and to stop breaking it all the freaking time) is surgery to repair the ligament but I don’t want to put myself through that. So I just need to be careful. And never go on another hike, ha.
You are between a rock and a hard place with your rock problem! HAHAHAHA SEE WHAT I DID THERE. I think hiding your rocks in further locations might help, and maybe only posting about your hides every now and then? Who knew that things were so crazy in the rock community!
Gah! It is the same! We’re too young to need surgery! How has it been feeling lately?
Ha ha ha ha LOVE IT! I think that is what I need to do too. The problem is I have fun posting my hides because I am an attention whore! But I could post them later 😉 could…
What is wrong with people? Seriously? Hoarding painted rocks? Gaaaahhh.
I say don’t tell anyone where you hide them, but I do understand how fun the game can be when people play it right!!
and sorry about your knee. I just got back to running – had to take another week off, sigh – and ooof, my hamstrings are feeling it for some reason!
Right? A few people in the group have brought it up to me so I am glad I’m not the only one noticing!
I hope your hamstrings feel better soon and you can keep running!
