The only thing I miss from my old job is the title. Ha! “Interior Architect”* sounded a bit more interesting than “Account Manager.”
(My actual title was “Interior Designer” which was too bad, since I trained as an architect and not an interior designer but people assumed I did since that was my title… I still get questions about what colors people should paint their homes. And guess what? I give them my input. MUAH HA HA HA HA.)
And that is absolutely the only thing I miss. I’m enjoying my new role so much more than my last one. I was talking to Rachel about work last Friday and she said she could tell how much better this position was for me based on how passionate I was talking about it. Yay. It shows!
Someone told me it’s the honeymoon period (rude!) but it might not be. I don’t think design was the right career choice for me. (Oops? Kids! Don’t feel pressured to pick a major! Get some experience first if you can!) I think customer relationships is a much better fit. For now!
No related image, but here is my new work notebook!
*But then when people found out I went to architecture school they wanted advice on things and I just… don’t know. And don’t enjoy architectural work. Or want to do it in my free time. Or ever. Very confusing to feel that way, but also miss the prestige of the title.
“Customer relationships”?? But you’re such an introvert!
🙄
Ha! Did someone say that to you?
I think people forget introverts are not anti social, they are just not energized from being around people and need down time.
I’m glad you are loving your new role so much! Eight years later and I’m still in the honeymoon period at my job. Hehe.
And I just need to address your “introverts are not antisocial” remark because YES. I think the whole memeification of introversion has done a serious disservice because that seems to be what people think about introverts. And I think people get introversion and highly sensitive personalities mixed up – I know a lot of social people who are introverts! They just get worn out from those social events a bit faster than the extroverts. But that doesn’t mean they don’t like them!
Yay! I am glad you love your role and hope I feel like you in 8 years!
Sigh. Yes yes yes. I agree. I swear I say this once a week when people claim they are one thing or the other, and I am like “but you know that’s just about what energizes/drains you, right?” I hate the introverts = shy/unfriendly/antisocial/a people hater in most of those memes. UGH. I really identify as ambivert, because the right people energize me BIG time, but the wrong people or too much time with people really drains me.
Oh, I am so glad you are happy in your new job – that is great! I think it is tough when you are 18-22 years old, to choose what you are going to do the rest of your life… I mean, without experience how can you know?
Exactly!!! Is that the norm there – to push kids when they are that young, like it is in the US?
“Interior Architect” does sound better than Account Manager LOL but you know, if your new role fits you that much better… who cares about the title!
Exactly!!!
