A few highlights from the weekend!
Friday
- Hiding a unicorn rock for National Unicorn Day.
- Breakfast sandwiches by Steven.
- Seeing a draft of my Kim Hides the Rocks logo. As a treat for myself when I hit 1,000 followers I commissioned a logo and love how it looks so far!
- No work meetings!
- Picking out some trees to plant in our yard.
- El Famous for dinner.
- Working on rocks for Sip & Purr.
Saturday
- Getting my walk in before the rain (it started raining right when I closed my car door to leave the preserve – perfect timing!).
- Picking up Gina’s cake and some treats for us from Pie, Pie My Darling. I also hid a rock there too!
- Getting a compliment on the cat earrings I was wearing.
- Seeing that someone re-hid one of my rocks in Mesa Arch National Park in Moab, Utah, and that the person who found it posted it in our group.
- Eating lunch out! In an actual restaurant! That’s the first time we’ve done that in Illinois in over a year.
- The most amazing vegan quesadilla of my life. But wait. Was it actually vegan? It tasted so much like real cheese I took it up the counter to ask and they confirmed it was potato cheese. I had such an amazing experience eating it that I bought two to take home. We heated one up for dinner with our El Famous leftovers and it tasted more starchy and not as good. So the first one was either real cheese or it just doesn’t heat up well. Hmm. Oh well.
- An afternoon nap. It rained all day (after my walk!) and it felt like the perfect day to be inside and nap!
- Painting some “dyed” rocks for Sip & Purr. These are “get them right on the first pass” rocks because I can’t really “erase” (i.e. paint over the background) to fix errors on these. I’m happy with how they turned out.
- Trying the Cookies & Cream Cup-Cake we picked up at Pie, Pie My Darling.
- Reading a lot before bedtime. I am reading a sci fi book I am really in to (The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet).
Sunday
- Buying a Charlotte Mecklenburg Library e-membership to access digital content (books, music, movies) for $45 a year. I saw this library mentioned on Stephany’s blog in the comment section and after Stephany got it and said it worked right away, I got it too. And I was able to immediately download the e-book I wanted. How much did my library want? $155?
- Chatting with Lorena during my manicure.
- Trying the Lemon Blueberry Cup-Cake we picked up at Pie, Pie My Darling.
Lowlights
- Loud music.
- Being upset seeing other people run on my walks. Ha. Grow up, Kim.
- Feeling jittery all day Sunday. Not sure what that was about.
- People driving crazy. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a “warm weather” thing? I keep getting passed in no passing zones (granted, I am only going 5 over) and am seeing other dangerous stuff. And so much traffic. Wah wah wah.
How cool one of your rocks made it all the way to Utah!!!
And I am so glad you got your library situation figured out – funny that you are going to be a member of a library in North Carolina! Your library has a lot to learn about offering its services to non-residents…
Yes! And that the author’s daughters want to start painting now.
Right? Ha. People kept asking why I didn’t join another local branch – they are all over $100 to join. Eek!
Awesome you are inspiring young artists!!! 🙂
Crazy to pay that amount of money for a library membership! I can’t believe people do that, but I guess they must? I have really been taking advantage of free reservations at my library and have read 30 books already this year!
Yes!
I doubt people in my community do. But I bet they do in the richer communities! That is so great you have read so much already – congrats! What has been the best so far?
The best books so far have been:
– The Salt Path by Raynor Winn
– After the Fire a Still Small Voice by Evie Wyld
– Belgravia by Julian Fellowes
– What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez
– The Friend by Sigrid Nunez
🙂
Thanks for the list! I haven’t heard of any of those yet so I will need to look them up!
Potato cheese. I have learned something new today.
I think people are driving crazy because so many haven’t really been driving for a year. It’s happening here as well.
I feel ya with not running – I haven’t run in two months because of my ding-dang knee. I can walk, but that still bugs. I’ve worked on strengthening the muscles around it during my sessions with my trainer but have finally accepted that I might also need PT so I’ll be seeing my doctor tomorrow for a referral. I’ve worked on trying to look at my Saturday walks as a fourth day of workouts and that helps but it sucks that I’m missing out on good running weather and by the time I can hopefully run again, it’ll be hot and humid. Ugh. I hope you can get back to running soon!
I had never heard of it either!
Glad it’s not just in my head. I am not a slow driver so getting passed like that kind of shocks me.
UGH PT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It’s good for you but so boring. But if it’s going to get you back to running, it makes sense. It completely sucks you are missing the small gap of decent weather there. I bet if you get back to running in the swamp you’ll be so grateful for it though! For like a few days. Then miserable with the heat.
And thanks! I am getting better and going to try running this week. If it keeps up I should do some PT too.
Your rocks are expanding their outreach. Moab UT is a great place to find one.
Add me to the list of not knowing what potato cheese is.
Yes! I wish I had been the one to place it there. I want to go to Moab so badly.
I had no clue!
YAY FOR A NEW LIBRARY CARD! I am very much enjoying the Charlotte library system. Woohoo!
So cool that your rock was found in another state and it’s inspiring other people to start painting rocks to leave around! That rock gets to have so many fun adventures!
Yes! And thanks for checking it out first 😉
Right? I thought that was just so neat, too! And the reason the Sip & Purr people contacted me is because someone took one of my rocks there, so it’s pretty cool people do that!
