I had a fun surprise in the mail yesterday – an envelope of old photos from a childhood birthday of mine! A grade school friend was cleaning out her storage and found them. It was so sweet of her to send them!
The funny thing is, I recognize these people, this place, and definitely remember that cake (my mom’s mom made us the coolest cakes), but I do NOT remember this party. Like at all. But I was obviously there. Being sassy.
Is this the beginning of my rock obsession?! Ha, no.
This friend has told me she has such good memories of going to this party and being on the river in Guttenberg, Iowa, that that’s why her family bought a place nearby, and now she takes her kids out on the water. How fun is that? Guttenberg really leaves an impact on people – even at a young age! Seeing these left me feeling excited to go this year!
What a great find on her part and a nice gesture to send them to you. I like finding older photos of myself. The memories that get triggered!!!
I love finding (most) old photos too! I need to ask my parents more about this party the next time I see them!
That cake! Wow! How funny you remember the cake but not the party – priorities, right? 😉
Totally! Ha!
Omg, the rock obsession started from a young age! BABY KIM IS THE CUTEST BY THE WAY.
I love looking at old photos like this. So many memories!
Aww thank you!
Right? This party took place at my Grandma’s old cabin that she tore down and built a new house on the property, so it’s especially fun to see these old pics – we don’t have a lot of that space!
Haha, that is so funny… my Dad has been digitizing old slides and sending me pictures and I had the same reaction: I remember certain aspects, but not the event …. or I remember something completely different from my sister. Memories (and what you remember) can be so wildly different from person to person!
And it’s fun to discuss it, right? I completely forgot to ask my parents about this party when I saw them last weekend!
I love this! My father does the same as San’s, and sends me old pictures, particularly when he’s missing me and feeling nostalgic. 🙂
Memories are fascinating things. Isn’t it odd / amazing / astonishing what stands out for each of us? And, when people who experienced the same event – like you and your friend – have completely different memories of it? It does make you wonder what causes certain things to really embed within your brain… or maybe it just makes me wonder. Ha.
Ooh, your hair looks so curly in these childhood photos. Is that how it is naturally, or was this summer river hair?
And this makes me want to visit Guttenberg now! I love these kinds of special summer places.
That’s how it was! Curly (and even blond for like the first five years)!
You are welcome to come be on river time with us!!!!
