Here’s my final update on my February goals! Even though I only accomplished 6 of the 10, it was helpful to have these – it made me more mindful of my day-to-day actions. I will focus on those day-to-day actions again in March – drinking enough water, playing with the cats, being mindful of spending… but I am not going for “movement every day.” I need one rest day a week. Especially with how intense work has been.
I really want to get back to a more structured workout schedule but… I’m exhausted. And I was about to write that with the earlier mornings and warmer weather I could get back to morning workouts (and get them done before I am spent from work) but then I remembered Daylight Saving Time starts soon and I will lose that morning daylight. Eh, I will get there!
= accomplished
= not technically accomplished
DRINK MORE WATER | 5-6 24 oz bottles a day
Did this! I still had lots of light headaches though. Maybe I should quit eating so much sugary crap…? Nah…
MOVEMENT EVERY DAY | tracked in weekly training recap
I missed one day! 27/28 isn’t bad though!
4 WALKS WITH FRIENDS/FAMILY | tracked in weekly training recap
So close – 3/4. Although Kristi said I could count my walk with her and Kathie as two walks since I was with two people?! Thoughts on that?! Hee hee. I totally would have accomplished this had the weather not been so horrible two weekends in a row. That’s February for you!
SET UP AFTERSHOKZ HEADPHONES | I’ll report back if I do!
Ha, totally forgot about this until I was writing this post on Sunday!
MAKE EARLY WAKEUPS PRODUCTIVE | Eek! Hard to measure! I will know if I was productive though.
Good news here – I have been sleeping better and didn’t have as many early morning wakeups (anything before 5:00 am). And when I did, I scrolled Instagram for a bit, then read, or got up and worked out. And as an update on the cat feeder we got, it is helping with our sleep, yay! (The cats are learning the feeder gives them their dry food, and at the same time each day, so they don’t bother us as early.) Since I drafted this post on Sunday I’ve been sleeping horribly and the cats have been waking us up early.
READ 3 BOOKS | tracked in Reading Update post
Did it! I read 4.25 books this month. Sadly, I also found on this month that I need to pay $154 a year for a library card! I let it expire and will see how it goes without one.
PLAY WITH THE CATS EACH DAY | Also hard to measure!
I linked this up when I am making breakfast and helping with dinner, so I made sure to do this most days, yay!
FINISH BRIDGERTON | finish it, ha
Did it!
NO EXTRA SPENDING | only spend on groceries, household items, gifts
I ended up buying:
- two face masks
- an exercise top and door stop with Kohl’s cash, but had to charge $8 for the difference
- two Bath & Body Works candles
I did not need any of these things, but having this goal made me more mindful of frivolous spending, so it actually ended up helping, even though I failed.
ONLY GET STARBUCKS 1X A WEEK | YOU CAN DO THIS, KIM!
I got it 4.5 times – one time I shared with Steven. I am calling that a success! I am especially impressed I only had it once when I went to Iowa!
Question about the headaches – when is the last time you had an eye exam? Staring at your computer all day causes eye strain which can definitely cause headaches (and I think most people are probably on screens more now than pre-COVID). Just a thought, especially if you are getting enough water.
I think the double walk with the sisters counts! Also that was a tough goal for February between all the snow, ice and super cold weather.
Oh gosh, good question! I have never had a real eye exam, just the one at the DMV like… 15 years ago? I never thought of that! I was having issues last year with my eyes feeling fuzzy (well, my vision, rather) but that went away!
Woo hoo! I should count it then! It totally was! I think I will hit 4 walks very early this month, as I am seeing Gina and fam and some of my fam this weekend and we like to take walks! I saw you are running! How is it going?
Never? Wow! I’ve been wearing reading glasses while on the computer, oh, pretty much since I started working (but my vision is fine otherwise). The combo of a computer and fluorescent lights in an office used to give me really bad headaches.
Yay for exceeding your walk goal this month π I’ve been doing intervals on Wednesday mornings instead of going to my class – so far, so good! I do have a 5k I plan to run at the end of April but I have no goals at all for distance or pace, so it’s pretty enjoyable π
Yeah, weird, right? I do look at a lot of super complicated spreadsheets now, with small text! I should look into that π
Fun fun fun! Let me know how it goes! I wish we could run and work out together!
Wow good job on your goals!!
Thanks!
Piggbacking on Anne’s comment about eye strain – have you ever tried blue light glasses? It seems like your water intake is good, so maybe the headaches are coming from your screens. I’ve never tried blue light glasses so I don’t know if they actually work, but worth giving it a try!
I think you did amazing on your goals! WAY TO GO.
I have not but I have seen a few people talking about them lately! I should ask the friend who got some how they are working out.
Thank you! <3
You did really well and some of these are just meant to be “ongoing” goals… so just keep at them!
Thanks!
Wow, I’m impressed by the Starbucks restraint. I feel like cutting out small indulgences like that can be so hard because it feels like we can’t reward ourselves in other ways, like seeing friends or going to movies.
Aww, thanks! Don’t worry, I still found other ways to treat myself, ha! And I got Starbucks twice last week!
Another Anne here, piling on re: the eye exam. I’ve worn glasses since 4th grade. This year, after 6 months of WFH, my prescription worsened by nearly 25%. If you’re working on a computer with small text for many hours a day in low light… you may need reading or computer glasses, particularly since hydration does not seem to be an issue! Please make my (retired eye doctor) dad happy and schedule an appointment. π
Stepping off my soapbox, I think you rocked your goals. Clearly, move every day was not the best option for you so I’m glad you ditched that one! And, man, you’d think the cats would appreciate more play and would leave you alone in the morning! Sigh.
Wow! That is crazy your eyes worsened that much! I wonder if it’s more of an age thing than a WFH thing for me, with my eyes. I’ve been WFH four days a week for years, and only giving my eyes a sort of break from my computer one day a week. But either way, I will see a doc at some point!
Thanks! Gah! Our schedule just does NOT sync up with the cats. We need to play with them before bedtime so they sleep when we sleep.
