Two Sundays ago, I was talking to Steven about the scratch on my face from Starbuck and said (something like) “It looks bad, and I don’t think it will scar, but I don’t want to pick at it to remove the scab to make it look better.”
The scratch is completely gone now
And he very nicely said to me, “that’s not a scab, that’s just dry blood – you can clean it off.”
I started laughing and said “that’s right! People wash their faces!” (Why I thought it was a scab and didn’t realize it was dried blood… er… let’s blame that on bad sleep.)
He gave me instructions (which soap to use) on how to wash my face, since I never do, then I went in to the bathroom, washed it, came back and said “new year, new me! I wash my face now!”
Please stay tuned for more tips about my skin care routine!!!
(I wash my face when I wear makeup, and let water get on it in the bath/shower, and sometimes use soap… but it’s not a daily thing… oops? That’s really gonna bite me in the butt soon, I know. Eek. Is this why people have given me those facial mask things?! As a hint?! Ha ha.)
You have really nice skin!! Do you moisturize it? I think that is more important than washing for maintaining your skins health. (This is not a medical opinion lol.) I only wash my face if I wear makeup too, and I very rarely moisturize, but know I should.
Thank you! I don’t! What should I be doing? Like used a moisturizer each am with SPF in it, right?
Yes, I don’t have one with SPF but they def recommend that. Mine is just Cetaphil? Or something like that. I can show you.
Oh yeah, please do show me. I think I have heard of that. I think the stuff Mom uses has SPF in it.
My friend said her dermatologist said she could ‘wash’ her face with plain water so maybe that’s enough for you when you aren’t wearing makeup. I use a gentle cleanser and pretty much only when I shower or wear makeup (which is basically never).
Ahh good to hear! What cleanser do you use?
I’m amazed that you never seem to break out; your skin must not be very oily naturally! Given that, rinsing with cold water each day probably does suffice.
I wash my face daily (and have since my teens) because it feels grimy to me if I don’t, and I moisturize after washing and again before bed. Moisturizing could be beneficial considering how often you’re outside in windy conditions.
If you’re interested in recommendations, I use the Perfectly Posh brand – 100% vegan and cruelty-free (which is sadly not true for a lot of beauty brands).
I probably shouldn’t talk about it so I don’t jinx myself!
Do you do it once a day or in the am and pm? And you are right – my face gets chapped AF in the wind. I wear a buff around as much of my face as I can but that only does so much.
Oh thank you! I will check them out. And thanks for checking that off for me – I try to buy vegan cruelty-free beauty brands when I can!!!!
Honestly, I’d ride it out as long as you can! It’s obviously cheaper to use water π
I wash my face in the morning, after I work out. And ouch to chapped skin!
I realized recently that a lot of the makeup I use is not cruelty-free so I’ve been doing a lot of research on that! (and will obviously stop buying those brands!)
It really is! I bet some people spend a lot of $ on their skin care routine!
Good for you for doing that!!!!
I’m dying because I haven’t had a skin care routine ever (well, except for my teen years of using Bonne Bell’s Ten-O-Six lotion, which was probably extinct by the time you were a teen, LOL). I wash my face in the shower with some sort of facial cleanser, but only recently started using makeup remover washcloths (which you just get wet with plain water) to wipe my remaining makeup off at night. They work well but I’ve been known to just go to bed wearing what’s left of my makeup and then washing my face in the shower. TMI? LOL. But hey, you’re not alone…
Ha! We did have Bonne Bell though! I wonder if they are still around?!
LOL, definitely not TMI with what I am sharing here. I have some wipes like that too (that are already moist) and some nights it’s just too much to even use one of those. WTH. Why am I so lazy?!
Living in a place that is dry 10 months of the year, applying lotion and face washing is a must. Is it not dry there?
It’s dry in the winter, for sure! So I apply body lotion a lot, but kind of ignore my face. Oops.
Boy, every now and again I’ll skip washing my face in the evening if I’m super, super tired, but otherwise I definitely have to wash it twice a day. My acne would be bonkers if I didn’t. Or at least, I assume it would be. I guess I haven’t really tried skipping washing my face for a long period of time, but since I still get the occasional zit (and sometimes more than occasional!) even though I do wash my face, I’m guessing cutting it out entirely wouldn’t do me any favors. I don’t actually wash with soap, though. I use a cleanser (CeraVe), which is less harsh on your skin than soap. Or at least that’s how I understand it. It’s what my dermatologist told me to use years ago, and I figure she knows what she’s talking about, ha.
It doesn’t sound like it would! I would say I am sorry you have to deal with that (well, zits for sure!) but I bet at this point it’s just part of your routine? She probably does know what she is talking about! LOL. I have heard of that brand!
I fell off my skincare routine last year when I wasn’t wearing makeup every day to work and my skin was enjoying being able to BREATHE, haha. But I still get breakouts (WHYYYY) and my face is super oily and has some redness so I’m committing to being better about my skincare routine in 2021. I imagine some of my skin issues have to do with my diet and probably some hormone stuff. Blah.
You probably don’t need to worry about a skincare routine! Maybe just a moisturizer with SPF?
I am so glad you have that perk of letting your skin breathe when you WAH! I hope you find a perfect new skincare routine in 2021 that still incorporates that!! And I bet your elimination diets may help?!
I think that is what I should try. I def want to be better about SPF!
OK, I was going to refrain but… I’m sorry, I just can’t shut the former dermatology clinic nurse in me up. π
So here’s your (BRIEF) lecture on SPF:
WEAR IT. WEAR 30+. WEAR IT EVERY DAY.
Also – hats (especially in summer) and sunglasses (protect your eyes).
That is all. Seriously, that was part of our education to every kid and family that came in, whether the appointment was for eczema, acne, or some super-rare skin thing. WEAR IT. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
And I’m with the others -if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If just letting water hit your face works, and it’s not itchy, tight, red, or super-oily? Then don’t worry about it.
But please wear the SPF! π
(Lecture over)
Thanks for the input!!! I want to wear it! But I cannot find one that doesn’t make my skin feel like it can’t breathe! Do you know of any good ones that come in moisturizer or something?
Wow, I’d read about people who just “splash cold water” on their faces as a routine, but I didn’t know you were among this elite group of people who don’t use soap. I just assume everyone’s skin has settled into some state by their 30s, and so whatever they’re doing probably works.
As someone said above, I’m committed to a daily sunscreen (but I also do moisturizer, twice daily washings, toner, and sometimes sheet masks). I’ll send you some recommendations that feel lighter and less greasy than “normal” sunscreen that you put on at the beach.
LOLOLOL, I didn’t know this was an elite group thing. Ha ha ha ha. I hope it stays this way!
Thanks! Please send. I did order a moisturizer with SPF to try. I want to start wearing it every day.
