A few highlights from the weekend!
Thursday
(I usually only start this post on Thursday when I have a three day weekend, which I didn’t, but I wanted to share some Thursday highlights!)
- My nephew receiving the rocks I sent and loving them.
- Receiving a beautiful stained glass paw print in the mail from Courtney. Ha, when I saw I got something from her in the mail I said to Steven “We aren’t exchanging gifts this year! But I did just send her something…” (we are doing donations in each other’s names instead) then I opened it and the card said “This is for your promotion! Not Christmas!” Ha ha ha.
- My coworker’s son loving his holiday gift we sent.
- The Ali on the Run Show LIVE: The Virtual Edition with Aisha, Des, and Shalane! I’ll have a whole post about it tomorrow, but long story short – I loved it! I was smiling, laughing, and crying happy tears (not all at the same time) for most of it!
Friday
- Being productive very early (I woke up way too early again – before 4:00). I wrapped presents, wrote two blog posts, and started two rocks.
- My run! I felt good, saw a beautiful sunrise, AND found Stormy and Pip right where I left them! I brought them home! Ha! (They were covered in frost, but they have three coats of glossy finish on them and were doing just fine.)
- Going to the city with Steven. We picked up his birthday cake (!!!) but first, stopped and got lunch at Upton’s Breakroom (Chicago Style” Italian, Bacon Ranch Cheeseburger, and Bacon Mac n Cheese) and dessert (an eclair donut and a slice of cake from the same place we were going to pick up the cake – Pie, Pie My Darling – ha!). Yum! It was fun to spend the time together chatting and eating in the car.
- A manicure with Lorena. We had a lot of fun catching up. I showed her my most current rocks (dogs!) and she asked where I was going to hide one of them so she could go take it. Aww. I told her I’d make her custom ones for her dogs so I worked on that Friday night.
- Homemade stir fry by Steven.
- A friend getting a homemade gift (yes, a rock) I sent them and loving it.
Saturday
- A tough lower body workout.
- Meeting Bobbi to walk and hide rocks. It was nice to vent about Christmas responsibilities together.
- A man and his daughter asking me in the parking lot (after our walk) if we were the ones hiding rocks, then thanking us for doing so. Aww. He said seeing the rock posts gets them motivated to get outside when they normally wouldn’t.
- Painting rocks and watching The Knight Before Christmas. (Also rock related, a few people posting that they found my rocks in the Facebook group. So. Much. Rock. Talk.)
- Breaking in to Steven’s birthday cake early.
- Lorena sending me pics of her pups with the rocks I painted to look like them.
Sunday
- Feeling great on my long run.
- The crazy fast results of the women’s field in The Marathon Project.
- Steven bringing me home a chai.
- Watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I had gotten it for Steven’s stocking and we were lamenting it not being free on any of our streaming services so I gave it to him early.
Lowlights
- Driving. There’s just so many people out following too close and being all zippy. ‘Tis the season.
- Someone at Aldi asking me if they could give me a quarter for my cart then giving me a dime, two nickels, and five pennies. That. Is. Not. A. Quarter.
- Paint not drying fast enough (I’m so impatient). Steven set up a heating station for me though!
We watched Christmas Vacation, too – and what is up with almost none of the classics being available for free? I mean, that movie was done in 1989 for crying out loud! I ended up subscribing to AMC+ through Amazon Prime video for 99 cents for one month (note to self, put cancellation date on calendar) so we could watch it plus there are a couple others I’d like to see. But then Jeff wanted to watch Scrooged, which wasn’t on AMC or anywhere for free, so I had to rent that. Sheesh! Fun to watch those old movies, though.
Rock talk. Love it.
Happy Birthday to Steven!
Right! Although, sigh, White Christmas is on Netflix, and we watched It’s A Wonderful Place someplace else, but I want MOAR. I hope you put that reminder in your calendar to unsubscribe! Almost makes you just want to buy Christmas Vacation and Scrooged, right?
He says thanks! I am also doing a call to action tomorrow on his actual birthday lol!
I love how much of this is about your rocks! I enjoy hearing about them 🙂 I actually think I’ve seen a couple in my neighborhood (not yours – just painted rocks in general. Probably painted by children, based on how they look). What’s the exact protocol with these? Are you supposed to pick them up and hide them elsewhere, or just take them to keep? I’m sure you’ve mentioned it before.
Your nails are so festive!
Thank you! I am glad you enjoy it because I love talking about it. In most groups the rule is to re-hide or keep, but to take a picture and share that you found it! My group’s tag that I put on the back says to “take a pic then re-hide” and I wish it said to keep too so more people would post them! I think they feel guilty if they keep them, and don’t post the pic.
Thanks! I thought they’d be perfect for our plans to stay in on NYE! Ha!
Sounds like an awesome weekend and I love that you’re out hiding these rocks! I haven’t listened to Ali’s podcast in a while, but I think I might have to go back to it. (Note: I am not much of a podcast person, hence the struggle.)
I wasn’t huge on them before but I’ve really leaned in to them during the pandemic – it makes me feel like I am running with someone! (ha, not that I ever did before the pandemic…)
Ooh, I love your nail color! I wish I could handle manicures but there’s something about having polish on them that makes it feel like my nails are suffocating. A weird quirk about me, ha.
National Lampoon is one of the Christmas classics I watch every year. I watched it a week or so ago and ugh, it is just so good. I love everything about that movie.
Waking up before 4AM on the weekend? I need to have a talk with your internal alarm clock. That is not ok!
I LOVE MY ROCK SO MUCH!!!
Thanks! Does it feel that way with polish at home and a no chip? I am glad you can still enjoy pedicures! Ahh, I could go for one! (I have one coming up 1/2, yay!)
It’s really great, isn’t it? It’s so fun to watch these movies we watch each year and laugh at all the same parts. We did that last night with Love Actually and it makes me so happy to see Steven loving the same parts of it each year.
Sigh. I know. Sometimes I give the cats their dry food and go back to bed but sometimes I am too pumped to sleep. It’s okay in the summer when the sun is up, but not now.
I am so happy you do!!!!! Your message and insta post made me feel so good. I have a rock post scheduled for Friday about my rock inspo and that is the first one featured! (I got inspiration from a tea towel my friend gave me for xmas!)
You are really rocking Christmas this year! 😉
I really am!!!!
…The quarter thing is so baffling. Who does that? (Apparently, that guy.) I feel like this is something I’d see on “Am I the Asshole?”
I love your nails! (But you already knew that.)
When you do a tough workout, do you do the programming yourself? Do you decide to make some days tougher?
OMG. It totally belongs on AITA!!!!!
Thanks! I love how they turned out too! Lorena combined two polishes to give them the most sparkle!
I do! I have a pretty set routine I am following each week of a upper body and whole body day, and lately I’ve been doing the leg day too. And yes, I sometimes randomly lift heavier! I don’t write any of it down and just go by feel. LOL. Much personal trainer over here.
LOL’d at the person offering you a quarter and then giving you 25 cents in non-quarter form.
And Khali spying that cake is funny.
Right?! Say what it is!!!! “twenty-five cents!”
She is such a food creeper!
