[99] I Remember Nothing: and Other Reflections by Nora Ephron
Humor / Form / Essays, Stephany blogged about it and mentioned how short it is and I needed a short book to meet my reading goal!
Synopsis: Ephron shares short essays and lists about her life.
Review: This book made me realize how little I know about Ephron! I love many of her movies – When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, etc. – but didn’t know she was a journalist first, or that she’s published other books. I also didn’t know she knew such a wide range of famous people – there were a lot of essays mentioning people I had no idea who they were, but felt like I was supposed to. Despite that, I enjoyed the essays. Especially the ones focusing on not remembering much anymore (it made me feel grateful I blog/journal here) and about her relationship with her parents, and what she went through in her divorces. I want to dive deeper in to her other books now! She’s was so smart and her commentary on life was spot on.
Recommend? Yes (especially if you are looking for a really fast read like I was!)
[100] The Last by Hanna Jameson
Fiction / Thrillers / Crime, Currently Reading “Season 3, Episode 20: Bookish Peer Pressure + Book Subscriptions for Gifting”
Trigger warnings: violence, murder of a child, execution, mentions of cannibalism
Synopsis: Jon Keller is at a conference in Switzerland when nuclear war decimates most of the population. He stays at the hotel with a group of about twenty people and begins writing down his daily experiences. After a body is found at the hotel, he becomes determined to solve the mystery of how the person was killed.
Review: This was easy to read, fast moving, and kept me guessing about what was going on at the hotel and with the rest of the world. There were a few suspenseful parts, but overall, it didn’t make me feel stressed out, which was surprising, for a dystopian post-apocalyptic novel, but not disappointing. Ha, although now that I remember, the Currently Reading podcast said this was “Station Eleven x 10″ (or 100 or something) suspense-wise, and I didn’t think so!
Recommend? Yeah, if that’s your thing!
I’m glad you liked the Nora Ephron book! A lot of the name drops went over my head, too. 🙂 I just loved how dated it felt, like her essay on email. Dated in a good way!
I’m caught up on Currently Reading episodes – can you believe it?! Now we can ACTUALLY chat about the podcast in real time!
They really were! I looked some up but got tired of it. I agree it was dated in a good way. The email essay made me think about how in my new position (which is more relationship focused) I need to pick up the phone more and not rely on email!
Yay! I am so excited!!!!
