- This year my entire branch did a DiSC Assessment (it’s a “personality and behavioral assessment used by more than one million people every year to improve teamwork, communication, and productivity”) and I thought it was just going to be another instance of being told “other people are in a different category than you, accommodate them.” But it was thankfully much more than that. We went in to each type’s strengths and weaknesses, talked about what to do if you’re stuck in a rut, and how to, yes, communicate effectively with the other types. It was so nice not to just be told to ask what other people are and change my style for them, but to actually look at my style and be told how I could excel. I felt SO SEEN by my results. SO SEEN. And really empowered to lean in to my type, as well! Seeing and understanding my type is part of what made me feel confident enough to apply for my new role at work!
- We rented a movie that was actually in the theater recently – Tenet! It was really hard to follow but NEW MOVIE! THAT WAS IN THEATER!
- We also watched It’s A Wonderful Life for the first time last night. I had only ever seen one scene from it!
- I’m excited Roku and HBO came to an agreement as of today and we can stream HBO Max on our Roku now!
- Federal employees are being granted December 24th off this year, which is nice! It’s not a federal holiday for us so I usually work it or take annual leave. I am looking forward to an even shorter week next week.
- A lot of people are off this time of year because they have so much leave accumulated they’ve reached the max and need to take it before they lose some of it. Every year I wonder… how does this happen? I never have that much leave! But I also enjoy taking half days here and there throughout the year though.
- Ha, when I was teaching fitness boxing I’d always do a special holiday class in December and have gifts for all the students. I would usually get some of the things for those gifts on Christmas clearance the year before and I did that last year… and I am not teaching this year… so I have a lot of cute holiday mugs in my basement with no home!

That so great about the DISC assessment being useful for you. Did you do any instructor led sessions to talk about using the results or did you just read the results packet? We use DiSC at my office, too! Interestingly, Iβm almost the exact opposite style of you π
Yeah, we had a division wide session walking us through the document, then we met within our branches to talk about our styles, and we can request a document that shows our style specifically against other people who’ve taken it, which is SO helpful! There is one person who I clash with and I was like, I should do mine against theirs and see what I can improve, ha!
Did you find it useful? That’s interesting you’re almost exactly opposite! <3 We could learn from each other! π
I’ve never heard of this one! It sounds really interesting. I’m glad it’s not just “fix yourself and accommodate others”. And, you’ve already benefited – with your new position! Very cool.
It is! I find Myers Briggs too confusing to remember my type for some reason, but in this one, you’re one of the four letters, then a certain subset of it. Let me know if you ever take it!
I had enough leave accrued this year that I actually had to take a week off earlier this fall to not get over the limit by the end of the year. That has never happened to me. But granted, I had saved up a lot of vacation for a family vacation this summer that ended up not happening… so I was in the first time since I moved to the US “forced” to take leave that I am not spending with family. It was kinda nice.
Also, yay for getting the 24th off… since this is usually the “bigger” day to celebrate in Germany, I usually FaceTime my family in the morning.
Oh, and how did you like “It’s a wonderful life”? I love that movie – we watch it every year on Christmas Day!
And that makes sense why you had so much and had to take it this fall! I am sorry you didn’t get to do that summer vacation π
Oh awesome! That works out perfectly with “seeing” your fam on the 24th! What do people typically do on Christmas Eve there?
I liked it! I could totally see why he was so beat down and over it!
Ooh, I looooove personality tests like this, haha. Do your results mean you scored highest for action, enthusiasm, and collaboration? Or am I reading the infographic wrong? I’ve always wanted my company to do some sort of personality assessment like this. I think it would improve our communication and help us understand our coworkers so much better! Maybe I’ll pitch this DiSC assessment!
Hooray for having Christmas Eve off! I didn’t take that day off but I do have next week off, so it’s a fair trade. π
Yep! That is what it means! And then I kind of have an arm toward challenge. And oh my gosh, yes, it will help both of those things SO MUCH! Pitch it and let me know what happens. It was so cool to take this, have it explained to us, then get result that personally show me with another person and how we can work together! It’s such a useful guide and I will say it again – I felt SO SEEN.
A whole week is going to be AMAZING! You are going to be well over 150 books!!!
Would you recommend “Tenet”? One of the PMs I work with saw it twice in theaters (in Estonia). It was special for her because they filmed a lot of scenes in Tallinn. I’m looking forward to seeing it to see if I recognize anything, but yeah, it looks pretty confusing.
(Do you remember the trailer for it? I saw it in theaters, and at the end, the release dates appeared slowly on screen, like “7…7…20.” We all started giggling when the 20 showed up since it wasn’t “in line” with the 7s.)
I would, just because the quality of the movie is so high. Ideally, you could read or watch something before it that would explain what you’re seeing. If I find that, I will send it to you! Now I wonder which scenes were the Tallinn ones!
Ha! I do not remember that! I need to go back and find it!
Your post with the TENET movie reminds me that I need to use my Redbox points before they expire in 3 days
Do eeet! What are you going to rent?
Tenet is one movie to use my points. I am still looking for the second one that I was going to rent before 12/31 but it looks like I have till mid January 2021 to use my free code rental.
