A few highlights from the (long) weekend!
My company doesn’t give the day after Thanksgiving off, but I work extra hours each day to get every other Friday off, and this was my Friday off, so, yay!
Thursday
- Feeling good on my run and seeing lots of people in the preserve.
- Opening a Thanksgiving gift from my mom.
- Using the new mug Snis gave me.
- Thanksgiving meal! We tried a new fake meats turkey.
- A nap with the cats. I cannot remember the last time I took a nap! It felt so nice!
- Leftovers for dinner.
Friday
- Finding two rocks (and re-hiding them) on my walk.
- Picking out some items to buy from the Giving Tree at Starbucks (then buying those items).
- Thanksgiving leftovers for lunch.
- Finishing Season 2 of The Boys.
- Another nap. (I wasn’t expecting it, but I had time when Khali’s vet appointment was canceled.)
- Being able to snuggle with Khali (have her sit on my lap) since she was sedated.
- Going down a rock creating/painting rabbit hole.
- Steven getting his new toy (skid-steer loader) to work.
Saturday
- Running at a new to me preserve. It’s crazy I’ve lived in Lake County for 13 years and had never been to Hastings Lake Forest Preserve! I think I had it confused with another preserve in my head and had thought I’d been. Anyway, there’s nothing like those “discovering a new trail endorphins.” I’ll be back!
- There being ZERO cars in the Starbucks drive-thru and having a long convo with the barista at the window.
- A long phone call with Mom.
- Helping Steven with the garage (not Dragonstone) soffit. We removed the soffits on one corner of the garage to take out old flying squirrel nests and repaint and make new soffits… but discovered a lot of the wood is rotted and that it’s kind of a disaster. We put it back together with the old soffit pieces (after painting everything we were covering up will Kilz paint) and at least now we know what we’re dealing with. And hopefully removing the nests makes the squirrels less likely to come back.
- Attempting to make some “rock” molds out of mortar. Muah ha ha, I think I need actual concrete mix.
- Biscuits and gravy for dinner.
Sunday
- Finding two cool rocks on my run. Ha, I only found one because I saw the people hiding it! They put it in a pile of large rocks, and when I went back the second time I went down there to see what it was. It was really neat – they painted it with polka dots and wrote “love” on it, and had a 3D flower on top of it!
- Organizing Dragonstone with Steven to make room for the skid-steer loader.
- Getting my own rocks to decorate and hide.
- My rock paint arriving and priming my rocks.
- Getting the basement ready for our new freezer.
- Trying a new Fake Meats ham.
Lowlights
- Khali’s Friday vet appointment being canceled. She’s fine – it was her annual wellness exam – but I’ve had to reschedule twice, and now the vet has once. I had given her some drugs to calm her down (and already felt guilty), and had an actual fresh poop sample I knew was hers (and was pretty excited about that!)… and now I need to do that all again in two weeks.
- Standing in a hella long line at Hobby Lobby to return something. What an idiot I am going on a Saturday during the holiday season to do that!
I love that you are painting rocks and adding them to the fun! I think that is such a neat idea in general; I wonder if something like that would go over around here.
Curious as to why you feel guilty for giving Khali something to calm her down – to me that sounds like a kindness, to help her out during a traumatic (for her) event like a vet visit. I think you are being a good cat mom by doing that.
A new freezer sounds wonderful! I would love to get one for our garage but alas, I can’t talk Jeff into finding a place for it. We can park both cars in the garage but it’s really full and nothing as big as a freezer will fit unless we move some cabinets. And then the stuff inside. Too much to think about so long story still long, no freezer for us but I will admire yours from afar. π
I bet it totally would!!! Do you think you would be interested in painting some? I painted 3 last night and it took me a long time! Maybe I will become more efficient.
Thanks for saying that – that does make me feel better! I felt guilty for putting her in an altered state and potentially making her feel scared and out of control. She wasn’t – she was just super chill and was even rolling around and showing me her belly for pets, I just felt like she might feel that way π
Oh gosh! Yeah, it’s important to be able to fit both cars in. Darn! Do you think those cabinets will get moved down the road? Ours came yesterday and I already put some stuff in it! Yay!
My mom’s company is also open the day after Thanksgiving and I always feel so bad that she has to work that day! She’s a manager and most of her employees took the day off, so it was super boring for her, lol. I had to do a little work during my time off, but it wasn’t so bad (especially because I could say “I’m tired. I’m going to take a nap.” Hehe)
I love that you’re going to decorate your own rocks! That will be a fun creative project for you. π
It’s such a boring day in offices, right? (Guessing your mom works in an office too). I’ve worked that day more often than not and it’s a major catch up day! I am glad your work wasn’t too bad!
I think so! I spent a lot of time painting my first three last night! I need better brushes… and better skills. I am going to send you a pic of Starbuck posing with one!
Love, love, love the rocks. Maybe I should start doing that at my gym. π I’m so glad you were able to disconnect and relax. I’m not quite as glad about the flying squirrel nests, but… the joys of home ownership? Maybe? Hope you deterred them from coming back.
Do it! They can all be health themed π
Gah, these squirrels, I tell ya. They just love our attic π Good thing they are so darn cute! You just can’t be mad at them! Even after we had to completely redo our second floor ceiling and everything above it in 2016, LOL!
Oh gosh, I asked you so many questions this week that were covered in this post, whoops!
How was the new Fake meats turkey and the ham?
Important question: are you going to paint a soffit on a rock? Do you think anyone could tell what it was if they weren’t into building things (or being a helpful spouse, like you are)!
Ask away! I don’t expect people to read this! I’d rather have people ask then assume they don’t need to talk to me because they read this, ha.
They were okay! The turkey did not have a lot of flavor and tasted better as leftovers. The ham was okay but we didn’t eat anymore of it so not a huge hit but also would have been better as leftovers!
HAHAHAHAHA. Gah. I would have to draw it as an architectural diagram and label it, because no one would know π
