- I’ve decided to give myself the gift of a break from library books, which really just means I’m going to focus on what’s on my Kindle. Steven got me one year of Kindle Unlimited last year for Christmas and I’ve hardly read anything through it since I always have a stack of library books, and I feel bad I haven’t used it more. So… I am going to try to just add books to my TBR spreadsheet and not immediately request things from the library, unless the publish date is next year. We’ll see how this goes. Of course, I have five library books at home to get through first.
- I really enjoyed our virtual work happy hour on Monday. It was nice to see people’s faces and not be talking about work, and we did a fun scavenger hunt where we had to find ten things from a list in our house, then share them all (I found every item except a landline phone. And I cheated on “souvenir shot glass” – we don’t have one!)! I asked Steven to have a fire going for me in the background so I’d look fancy on the call. Ha. It got lots of comments. And I love attention so win win.
- Speaking of fires… yellowjackets kept showing up in the living room last week, and we finally figured out they were living in some wood Steven brought in for firewood! Oops! Luckily Starbuck helps us find them (if we don’t hear their loud buzzing) and I can usually trap them and release them. I’m glad no one’s been stung yet! There’s been at least 6 of them!
- At first I had NO cloths masks and now I have six (one with donuts, one with the Millennium Falcon, and four with cats)! Ahh! I am addicted to checking TacoCat Creation’s etsy page (masks here) every Friday at 5:00 pm when they post new designs. Maybe at some point I should get a professional (i.e. plain and boring) one if I ever go back to the office? Nah…
- Updated to add: Last week I mentioned trying to watch Cats, and in the comments, Amy and Bethany helped me understand the musical is based on T.S. Eliot’s book of poems Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and that it’s a collection of stories (in song) and doesn’t really have an overall plot. I didn’t think much more about it, but I was walking by our bookcases and saw the two cat poem books my snis gave me in early October and lo and behold… that was one she gave me! Is this a sign I need to read the book and try to watch it again? (If the book is a quick read it would definitely help me reach my goal of 100 books for the year, ha!)

omg, the yellowjackets make me squirm! EEKS. I am so afraid of bees of all kinds. I’ve been stung a few times and always have an adverse reaction! I’m glad nobody has been stung, and hooray for cats who alert you to the presence of bugs, hehe.
Keep with the fun masks! I need more cat masks in my life, most definitely.
If I were you I would be afraid of them too! I have never been stung so they don’t freak me out! I am so grateful the cats find bugs year round. Do your girls?
I will! Do you have a cat themed mask yet?
Geez, those yellowjackets look gigantic! No thank you. I had to deal with wasps all summer hanging out on my hummingbird feeder. They had a tense relationship with the hummingbird who would come by, and it always annoyed me when she wouldn’t stick around because there were too many wasps on the feeder. I’m not trying to feed you, wasps!! It doubly annoyed me when I’d go to change the water in the feeder and the wasps would get all grumpy about it and not leave me alone while I was trying to take the feeder down/put it back up again. If you’re going to hijack my hummingbird feeder, the least you could do is not get angsty when I’m giving you fresh nectar!
I can’t believe your sister just happened to give you that book! Too funny. Also, FYI, since you mentioned previously being interested in how Memory fits into the context of the show: Memory is based off a different T.S. Eliot poem, not one in Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. (Which I guess is a little ironic, since you wondered how it fits into the show, and as it turns out the source material isn’t from the book the rest of the source material comes from, ha.) It’s here if you’re interested: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44215/rhapsody-on-a-windy-night
Why are they so big? WTF!
That sucks about the hummingbird feeder. I get it though – it’s sweet and they want it too. I hope your new place has a spot where you can put the feeder and the wasps leave it alone?! Have you seen any fun birds there so far?
Right? What are the odds? Ha. Oh gosh! Well, at least it’s still a T.S. Eliot poem. Thank you for the link, I will read it!
I would read the book but skip the movie! And when the pandemic is over, maybe someday you can see the musical.
Yellowjackets are the worst! I am glad no one has been stung. How creepy that they made a nest in our woodpile.
And I love your masks – don’t switch to boring ones!
Good idea! And I think if I ever got to ANY show again in the future I need to know what it’s about – I just cannot understand stage performances so I really missed out when we saw Book of Mormon – I could only understand half of it.
I am glad no one has been stung too! Steven gets stung a lot outside, eek!
Thanks! <3
Oh come on, if we can’t have fun with mask, what’s left in 2020? I made a couple of cloth masks myself at the beginning of *all of this*, but ran out of fabric… bought a couple of plain, black ones of Amazon, but I think I am ready to buy some more fun ones (or hunt down some cool fabric to sew some more).
Oh yes! Make some more and share them with us! I love seeing all the fun ones! (and people wearing them, in general)
Ahhh, I didn’t realize Edward Gorey had illustrated that one. (It makes a lot of sense because he was such a cat person.)
Ooh having a fire going seems so cozy; I definitely would have commented on it. We have a fireplace in our living room (as you know), but alas, it doesn’t work. I think it’s definitely too dry this year for any fires here, so I’ll have to live vicariously through you!
I need to look through it and actually look at the illustrations… and maybe read it 😉 Did you have some Edward Gorey greeting cards once?
Shall I send you a pic every time we have a fire? 😉 Or maybe we should have one on our next video call – we should probably set one up!
