A few highlights from the weekend!
Friday
- Feeling great on my run.
- Apollo and Starbuck’s annual vet appointment going smoothly with COVID-19 protocols in place. The vet told me the cats seemed pretty freaked out during their appointment, but why wouldn’t they be?! – I dropped them off and waited in the car while they were being prodded and poked with needles.
- Finishing a book I loved that gave me warm fuzzy feelings (One to Watch).
- Hitting 75 books read for the year.
- Laughing and being too loud during my nail appointment with Lorena.
- Trying a new recipe for dinner. I picked up the first Oh She Glows cookbook and marked a few recipes to try. The first one felt like a lot of work for something that was just so so, and so was the thing I made Saturday morning, so…
- A book I’ve been wanting to read all summer (Beach Read) and have not been able to get from the library being $1.99 on the Amazon Kindle store.
- Watching the Sex and the City movie.
Saturday
- Sleeping in.
- Making maple-cinnamon apple & pear baked oatmeal. A lot of work for it to taste like… baked oatmeal. Ha.
- Helping Steven with Dragonstone. We’re doing prep work for the brick to be installed mid October.
- The movie The Big Year being surprisingly enjoyable.
Sunday
- Sleeping in again.
- Feeling strong on my run despite feeling super out of it when I woke up.
- Grilling lunch.
- Starting a new puzzle.
- Watching Sex and the City 2. I’ve seen this and the other move before, but they still make me laugh.
Lowlights
- The vet telling us Starbuck is on the edge of being too skinny and can’t lose weight. Steven and I talk about how smรถl she is every day, so I wasn’t surprised to hear that, but it made me feel bad (not by the way the vet delivered it or anything – just cat mom guilt). Starbuck’s not very interested in food and Apollo and Khali sometimes push her out before she is done eating. I was already sneaking her food when her siblings weren’t around – now I know it’s okay to keep doing that.
- Getting chais at the outlet mall after Sunday’s run. What the hell was I thinking going there midday on a weekend? It was a complete zoo. You’d never guess we were in a pandemic by the amount of people there (despite the masks), and I was just adding to it. Never again.
- Nightmares.
Sounds like a really nice weekend overall! Although I had to laugh at your oatmeal recipe that tasted like baked oatmeal…I hate it when you put in the effort for something special and it’s just normal. Our Henry is skinny which we attribute to his age (nearly 15 1/2) and it’s hard to get him to gain weight. Maybe we should feed him kitten food – isn’t that supposed to be higher calorie? I should check that out. Hopefully Starbuck will put on a some poundage. He’s too young to be so smol.
LOL, right? I was hoping it would be more like a crisp, but duh, it was called baked oatmeal, not a crisp. Totally not worth the effort!!!
That is a good idea re: the kitten food. Because I don’t want her to get bigger from carby kibble. Do you think you will try it for Henry? It does seem like they lose weight as they get older ๐ Starbuck is way too young – she’s only 2 years 4 months!
Awww, poor Starbuck. I have the opposite problem with Lila and I’m worried about the vet telling me she has to go on a diet. I don’t feel like she eats any more than Eloise but she’s CHUNKY (and I love it). It’s hard when an animal is just not interested in food! How do you get them to eat more? Too bad she doesn’t like BURGURS!
Hooray for strong runs and grilling out and a manicure!
And if your vet is like ours, they will definitely let you know if Lila is slightly too heavy ๐ I get it, some pets are WAY too big, but it makes us pet moms feel bad! And, like, pets come in different body sizes too! Some are just a bit chonky ๐
The risk with a cat who doesn’t want to eat is only giving them the very specific things they want and making them super picky! We are trying not to do that! I should offer her some BURGUR ๐ If Khali will share!
So, fun fact: I went to school with the author of Beach Read. I had no idea she had become a successful author until another blogger mentioned Beach Read earlier this year and I was like, “Wow, that’s funny! I went to school with an Emily Henry!” I Googled her and lo and behold: same person. Wild!
That is a fun fact! Are you going to read this, or have you read any of her books?
I haven’t read any of her books to date, but I should – I’m interested to see how they are!
Bummer to make recipes that are a lot of work and then it doesn’t seem like it was worth it… I hope you manage to find a way to help Starbuck gain a bit of weight – definitely not easy if she isn’t really interested in food!
Sorry to hear you had nightmares! ๐
It is! I am going to try her newer books and see if those are any better.
Me too. So far she just wants dry food and the “shreds” version of their wet food.
Thanks. I wish they’d stop!
